I've not been on for a while, but I wanted to hear everyone's opinion on long distant relationships.

Is there really any point?
Can you really love someone like that?
Just really explain what your opinion is.

Distance is merely an obstacle. One that you can go through easily, but it will take some time. Definately not something you should just give up over. One way or another, you would have to do everything in your power to make it work.

Maybe if they've met in real life. If it's internet... No bueno.

It's weird if they never met.

I dated somebody on the Internet once. We lasted about a good 8 months. After the break up we tried to be friends again but it just didn't work out, and that's okay.

He changed and I changed too and we've both gone our seperate ways.

I use to be so depressed about it because he meant everything to me but now I've learned that we just weren't meant to be and how to better treat people.

I was quite clingy to him and because of that I'm getting better about it.

I'm still kind of clingy - that's just how I always am - but I've found my best friend - someone who can appreciate my personality and my quirks and everything.

He thinks my shyness is adorable. He likes that I text him a lot and worry for him sometimes. He knows that I'm loyal and care very much for him. He knows he sometimes makes me fluster. He knows I'm also just naturally shy in general. He likes my humor. He laughs at my jokes. We like a lot of the same things.

We also have some differences that perfectly balance each other out (he's more open and out there while I'm more shy an reserved. He's more musically talented while I'm more talented in art and such. He's not-so-grump and I'm grump... We compliment each other in plenty of ways..)

I don't really think it's pathetic. It's real people on the other end of the screen so it's not unrealistic to be attracted to them, just like you would be inrl...as long as you manage to know the person as best as possible (through Skype or whatever else confirms their identity), then go for it. In a way, you could almost say it's "better" than dating inrl where physical emotion and hormones could be playing a factor to your attraction to them, whereas on the internet you're more likely paying attention to their personality...but then we could get into the discussion about if people are really acting like themselves on the internet or not; so again, it depends on the person. Some people act on the internet like they do inrl, and others don't.

I've had a 2 year relationship with someone online...it didn't break up due to distance or lack of connection; it broke up for the same reason any other junior-high school relationship breaks up. I'm not ashamed that I've dated people online, I'm only ashamed that I've dated when I was too young. I'm not against the idea of meeting someone special online again, but I would certainly plan on meeting that person inrl before making anything set in stone.

It's just hard to convey real feelings over message. If there's no physical actions, it's not as passionate. Plus, they're surrounded by others you don't know or see in real life.. and that can change things.

You cannot dedicate and provide love, passion, and romance with someone whom cannot be there close with you. Love is something shared while two are close enough to form one soul, one body, one love. Distance is a factor that prohibits such from happening. You can lust. You can dream. But if that person is never close, you can not love.
