^ Not really. For instance, I'd love to do a remake of Phantasm, a cult classic that's extremely rare to find today, and therefore, many people will end up not seeing otherwise. Although many concepts in my supposed remake would be based off the original, it would be very different in many ways, hopefully so that modern moviegoers will have something modern and terrifying to watch, while fans of the classic will have something relatively new to watch, while feeling at home with a familiar setting and cast of characters. It would also (hopefully) stir up interest in the original (which JJ Abrams is remastering in 4k soon), so it would be an all-around win for all parties involved.

Same for a Darkman remake I would also love to direct.

Reboot implies a total restart, to spawn a totally new series. Remakes are one-off movies, that aren't meant to start a whole new franchise. Both can be good, and even on occasion better than the original. Depending on the source material and who's behind the supposed remake or reboot, it can totally be worth putting effort into.
