@mega-I don't mean to sound like an ass, but the graphic improvements on PS4 are clear as day. PS3 games aren't able to do good graphics AND 60fps most of time, there's always a trade off. Play any open-world game, run around in a wide area and watch the grass and trees pop into thin air. In the current-gen versions of BF4, rubble during destruction sequences flickers in and out of sight. Current gen graphics when you break them down are no where near maxed, and are often quite crude. (Especially in open-world)

Even in The Last of Us, the 2nd best looking game on PS3 (After Beyond Two Souls) there are noticeable trade-offs that were required to make it look so good.

For one, it's 720p, 30fps. Two, there isn't as much anti-aliasing as Uncharted 3. Three, there aren't as many crazy set-pieces as Uncharted. There are no trains rolling over or roofs caving in.

On PS3, draw distance usually sucks. Usually are a decent anount of jaggies. Foliage looks like crap. (Seriously, play any game and look at the leaves of a plant)
There are often framerate problems. Even sub 720p games often chug. PS4 can do native 1080p and 60fps without flincing. On PS3 the only games that do anything like that are cartoony indie games.

Water, snow and sand physics are almost always meh on PS3. (There are a few exceptions)

As with every gen, the graphics will get MUCH better. We're just in denial because we don't want to think our current system is useless.

I also want to point out the same thing was being said about PS3 when it first came out. Most early PS3 games did look like slighty better PS2 games. Go back and play almost any PS3 game before 2009 and you will be amazed how bad they look.

Also, if you showed a person in 2007 a screenshots of The Last of Us, and told them it was a PS3 game, they would have laughed at you and called you a moron.

The full potential of every system is not reached for many years.

But the PS4 is having an incredibly smooth launch, and devs seem to be having an easy time. Unlike the PS3, where for a long time they struggled to optimize their games for it.

Besides, seeing rocks poping out of the air affects gameplay? It dosn't have to do with gameplay.

@Mega

Trust me, in several years, graphics are going to make our current graphics look like NES graphics.

I really want a PS4, but don't know where to get one. I'm really wanting to save big and get one on Black Friday, but it seems that all stores have the PS4 sold out (obviously). Any suggestions? Even some sort of online store would work.

@mega-I guess PS4/Xbox One are technically "current gen" at this point. However the people who own them will remain in the minority for a little bit longer.

So I read your whole argument and I see your point of view. Yes, aside from Killzone what is currently on PS4 is not a huge leap. Games have a cleaner look to them, and there are more details but the leap is not massive.

But your missing the fact that developers in recent years have squeezed every bit of power out of the PS3/360 and they really can't do much more with those systems. Those systems can no longer contain their creative vision.

I've read a bit into the development of The Last of Us, it completely maxed out the PS3, and as stated there were significant trade-offs and Naughty Dog really had to skirt around the limitations of 7 year old hardware.

When footage for the recently announced Uncharted is revealed, you'll see how big a leap the PS4 is. Upscaled multiplats never do a system justice.

I'd suggest you look at footage of Killzone: Shadow Fall, inFAMOUS: Second Son, and The Order: 1886. These games have all been built for the ground up for PS4. None of those games are possible on PS3 because of the hardware, plain and simple.

Too many people on this site think more power merely equates to spruced up graphics, but more power not just makes better looking games, but bigger and more immersive games.

And while bad foliage isn't game breaking, bad framerate is. Assassin's Creed would be so much better at 60fps.

@mega-As I said before, most PS3 games back in 2006-2008 looked like PS2 games, with what you just said, better lighting. The only early PS3 games I can think of that looked way better than PS2 were Uncharted 1(2007), Bioshock (2008), and GTA IV (2008).

The first Assassin's Creed (2007) looked like crap. People were only impressed because of the large areas, but the actual graphics were PS2.5.

So while you aren't impressed now, you will be by the end of next year.

And on BF4: Doesn't 64 player online impress you? PS3 is only 24 player, that alone is pretty impressive.

And if you read GameInformer, they had a whole thing on The Order: 1886 last issue. They talked about how dust particles are in the air and how they realistically settle on objects, and how everything has soft-body physics. Basically meaning that objects will break or bend realistically.
