Thanks to having a lot of active enough mods these rulebreakers don't stand a chance.
Also, if the currenrt active users just stay mature, the new users will get the drill and do what is expected in the forums without being forced.

Also, encouraging people doesn't make you a douchebag. You just tell them about the existence of this part of the site, tell them why it's great and tell them why they are a great contribution. If they don't want to join, they simply don't have to.

Another thing I want to add:

The forums ARE visited more than you think. Just check subforums like Feature Suggestions. But that's not being active, that's just dropping a messages and then never visit it again.
What I see as active is creating threads and discussing them, from time to time.

It seems like new users don't see the forums as an opportunity to discuss about anything.

What I meant in my last comment was that you guys should stop molding them into the persons you want them to be. This is not limited to the forums rules.

But that's another thing, people being mistreated after breaking a rule without knowing it. Most of you guys tend to act very childish when it comes to this. I'm pretty sure I don't have to elaborate further.

A new forum user isn't (or at least, shouldn't be) forced to 'act' like others in the forums. They just see that the average post uses proper grammar and they may adapt, themself.

This thread isn't about the older users. It's about the newer users.
New users sometimes don't even know about the forums and others just see the forums as a situational tool without any dept.
For those users who don't even know about it - tell them it exists and why it can be a fun way to communicate with other members, discuss various topics or post art.
For the users who see the forums as just a tool:
Try to encourage them to use it as an alternative to comments or PMs. But don't force them, just tell them why you think they would have been a great contribution to the forums.

Why that? Having more people on the forums to talk to certainly helps you being more social outside. You could see the forums as a safe way to train your skills.
