What a lot of universities do to determine your worth as a student is your SAT score and your GPA. The method used is a bit wonky, though.
You pretty much take your overall GPA, multiply it by 100, then add that to your highest SAT score. Now, if you're not an idiot, you will have already realized where I'm going with this. Your SAT should be in the 2000s, while your GPA multiplied by 100 will generally be around 400. This means that SAT scores are worth 5 times more than GPA. This also means that differences in overall GPAs among students can easily be overcome.

This works in my favor, so I don't hope they change this any time soon, but I gotta say it's a bit unfair. Unfair to people that put effort into their work. For example, the gap from an overall GPA of 3.5 to one of 4.0 is huge. The latter will land you a rank among the top 10 of your class, whereas the former will most likely only barely get you in the top 100.
However, this huge difference in GPAs can be made up for with just 50 SAT points. That's

You do gradings different to how I do it. I get grades like '6c' and stuff. Anyway, I've still got less than a month till school finishes, so I don't know anything yet.

1st half I had a 3.72 GPA second half I got one last week.
