This may sound stupid, but moderating isn't as straight up as it seems....users expect you to fix issues that aren't always within your boundaries. You have to treat everyone equal which means warning and possibly banning your friends. You have to struggle with balancing how strict you should be. You have to have a good attitude practically all the time...There are "pseudo mod politics" which is even more complicated to explain....the reason so many users have been modded and demoted is because of countless factors...and many users know this and will dislike it when a moderator doesn't meet these standards. I know, as a user, moderating seems pretty easy...but until you get here, you'll notice just exactly how much gray there is in black and white films. You can be a nice person and try your best, but if you don't "have what it takes" to be a moderator, you likely won't stay. Yes, it's dumb that the system works this way for such a small site, but stoping mod-hate won't fix it.

Not to mention, jealousy is a factor...I notice this especially in the RP room, and it makes sense....The CMs never hang out in there, so becoming an RP mod seems like random chance.

I've noticed that every chatmod gets hate during the first week or two of their promotion...users try to wind them up, and some do it purposefully to test them. It's not a very nice experience, but it's a rather good one. If you stick to your guns, users will respect you....if you're weak and inconsistent, they'll make that surface. Also, if you're just a bad mod in general, they'll keep hating on you....Whether you know this or not, TwilightSparkle was a moderator before, and did a rather poor job at it...this is why users who have known him before were upset that he was promoted again.
