I'm sorry but .... the example should have been better than a $500+ smartphone.
Haven't you seen cars with only one person inside? I've seen many. The smoke from those cars effects the environment more than other sources of pollution. Mostly, people don't think and thank that they have such a good public transport system. If people start to prefer public transport over private, that would also save petroleum and CNG.

Sucks to be you guys, I live in a small town that's full of and surrounded by trees. No factories or anything, a few cars, of course, but our air is mostly pollution free. :-)

I agree with AC.

The pollution does really suck, but there's little I can really do about it right now. But hey, I can recycle.

One soldier by himself isn't enough to make a noticeable dent in enemy lines, yes? Well, if everyone thought it won't make a difference if I go to fight, one person won't be noticeable, then what would the US army look like? It would be rather small, yes? But instead, people choose to stand up for their country and make a difference as part of an army, and look what they can do now.

Now, put that to the context of environment.
One person recycling, bicycling to work every day, that doesn't make a difference? Not a noticeable one. Ten thousand people start doing it? You start to see an impact. The greater the number the greater the impact, but this won't happen with the I can't make a difference so why bother mentality that I see here.

Oh my god I think about this concept all of the time^
"One person wouldn't make a change", but everyone thinks this. Therefore, by everyone taking a step to make a "non-noticeable" change, it adds up to become noticeable.

Are you guys talking to me with the one-person thing? I think about that all the time, honestly. I'm not even old enough to drive, and the pollution that I do is pretty much not by choice. I don't litter and I try to recycle, yadayada.
