Do Guns Make Society Safer or More Violent?

I seriously hope no one is saying "guns prevent violence"...that's not logical at all.

However, I don't support a complete gun ban. Switzerland has the highest gun ownership rates in the world...gun crime there is virtually non-existent.
If everyone owns a gun, this means that if you draw your gun to shoot someone, there's a mighty high chance someone else will draw their gun on you...If you knew you'd most likely die if you pulled your gun out on someone, you'd think twice. All the mass shooters in America probably wouldn't have gotten as far as they did if a bystander had a gun and knew how to use it.

That being said, I'm not saying we should pass out guns to everyone like free candy. Switzerland has strict gun control which requires registration, background checks and permits. Also, the USA is a lot larger than Switzerland, perhaps making gun ownership a bit more difficult to control...

There are so many accidental gun injuries, and so many people who are afraid of guns because hardly no one is properly educated on how to use them. I think what America needs the most is responsible gun ownership.
Even with strict gun control and proper education, there are still going to be gun crimes....just as well as knife crimes, and crimes involving freakin' rocks as weapons. If someone wants to hurt you, they'll find a way to do it. I think we all deserve the right to own something to protect ourselves.

You started out on the right foot, took some good solid steps forward, then you fell down the whole ing flight of stairs as your argument went down the ter with that last sentence. Good job.

I should probably write a new story... but will I finish it?

Carlos you're an imbecile, you think just because you can say a bunch of crap makes you intelligent but it doesn't, you don't even have to be smart to understand that criminals don't just shoot each other.

Kid, you're borderline illiterate.

I'm sure Carlos is the only one who has that right to call someone an "imbecile".
YouMeAtSix (2015-03-30 10:18:47)
I'm not a kid and even if I were I wouldn't find it to be an insult; this being because someone to judge someone else based on age is ridiculous because age doesn't judge intelligence thank you, and honestly I couldn't care what you say, at the end of the day you're probably just some sad faggot at the end of a screen.

Ummmm, actually... show
YMAS is actually right....age isn't really a barrier for intelligence (unless you're under 12 months or so). A toddler can be taught physics, but that hardly every happens. Babies can be taught to read. There are many examples of intelligent kids under the age of 10. There's the family who had their 7 kids enrolled in college by the age of 12...The only reason we judge people's intelligence by their age is because society has a habit of holding everyone's education back for as long as they can, and so most 10 year olds don't know calculus and so on.
There can always be the one individual to invests themselves in extra education and be smarter than the average person their age.

That being said, Carlos is most certainly trolling. Don't get yout underwear in a twist.
YouMeAtSix (2015-03-30 16:02:04)
Although its true! A lot of people as adults cant read or write there's a big population of people who are stupider than your average 12 year old; that being said its not a big population but still they're older and are expected to be smarter, age doesn't always mean they're smarter is what I was trying to say, therefore judging someone's intelligence based on their age can be stupid.

Please learn not to be such an arse for no reason. ^

The people who buy guns to feel safe are usually the ones who end up killing, getting killed or having there gun stolen by family or friends and used for crime. People carrying guns are also often the ones the criminals shoot first. Self defence isn't a valid reason for any lethal weapon.

FUN FACT: In the UK and many other parts of the world, buying a weapon for self defence and killing a home intruder with it classes as "premeditated murder", which makes sense really.

If someone feels the need to sleep with a loaded gun every night and teach there kids to shoot instead of educating them, please give up your firearms and see a psychiatrist and get that paranoid schizrophrenia sorted.
