I know currently they're in the smack middle of Season 4 and that there is an upcoming Season 5. But is Season 5 the last one or is Hasbro really going to kick it into overdrive til the old cow produces sour milk?

Essentially turn MLP FIM into what Nickelodeon did to Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents. Those cartoons are without a doubt way past their prime but because they still get a nice net of viewers and consumers to buy the merchandise Nickelodeon refuses to let the cartoons end (as they act as a commercial for the merchandise)

That's a false dilemma. You're somehow taking it for granted that a show can't go beyond some completely arbitrary point without declining.

Personally, I think the decline is already in motion, and even some bronies are taken aback by the show's current state. Besides, I imagine most of the fans just aren't going to notice or care that much.

I'm more thinking about the Hasbro and more importantly the HUB network that they own. MLP FIM is without a doubt the only cartoon that justifies and carries that channel, so is Hasbro/Hub willing to let it end or not? I'm frankly leaning towards them spamming it til it no longer is profitable.

Newsflash: This cartoon is a rehash of something that's been rehashed about 2 other times since the 80s, the whole point is to sell pony toys to little girls. So they will keep this show alive for as long as it sells toys to these little girls, because it's only incidental that the show happened not to be complete ass and acquired a fandom of seriously misguided men who now only ***** about this show more than anything else. I'm glad I jumped off the wagon at season 2, I seriously can't stand this show's teen and adult fanbase.

So of course they will make season after season until they run it into the ground, that's what the show is for. And then they'll make a new series and the cycle will start over again. Whether or not adult men keep watching doesn't even matter to Hasbro.
