The altered future could mention you saving them, then you do so. If you're too confident and fail, then good job you just ended space and time singlehandedly. Honestly, there's a lot of holes in this super power, I was gonna think of one without holes like those but I was too lazy.

I wouldn't fall into either, personally. Depending on what powers I'd have, I would do what I could for people in need (including people who would otherwise be victims), but I'd also go after anyone who wrongs my family and/or myself. Not gonna lie, I'd probably be wanted in several states. But if I could teleport or move at light speed, I'd help fight terrorism overseas part-time.
