Let's say there's a dog and a human crossing the road and all of a sudden a drink driver comes out of nowhere and is about to hit them. Another person there sees them about to be hit and can only save one of them.

I'm YOUR opinion, would it be morally wrong to save the dog?
AgurettiLeaf (2015-05-29 13:45:51)
I'd save the  animal, screw the human.

Dogs know what cars are.

You'll probably get hounded for NOT saving the dog by some idiots.

Hounded. Dog. Heh.

If a dog I don't know dies, I get all sad. If a human dies, well..

Yes and no; "Yes," because that person likely has a family and yadayadayada; "No," because if I were in that situation, I'd feel inclined to save the dog.

I'm not sure if my answer was obvious without say I it, but I don't give a damn about the dog. My post was more satire than anything.

Well, it kind of depends on the person, too. If it was some stranger, I'd save the dog and let the stranger die. If it was a family member or someone I care about...

I'd fuse the dog and the person I like together.
little5 (2015-05-29 15:52:13)
The car is only so big. Can't the person run out the way? I'm sure you'd hear it, and the car can't cover the entire road. If it's a small road, the drunk would've driven off it by now.

Still the dog.

I will save the person, that person might do something good in life, and they have a family.
Boo (2015-05-29 17:10:37)
Yes. A dog is completely useless compared to a human. Humans are worth more.
oof

Here's another question for those who think it's imoral;

Is it wrong to save the dog just because its life isn't as complex as a humans, or because it doesn't have the same kind of family as one? Or is it the shorter lifespan that makes the dog's life less valuable in your opinion? Is there a different reason you have?

I had to go back to the beginning of 6th grade to answer this question.

Dogs don't have anything to do with humans. Animals are here to benefit humans. They are tools, not a priority.

Maybe it's the shorter lifespan.. I think the dog is comparable to a small child in this scenario. They're not as smart as (human) adults and shouldn't have to die because of something they don't know as wrong. Most people would save the child rather than the adult in this situation. Maybe it's the innocence? Sane people don't want innocent beings going through pain.

I explained nothing there, 'cause I suck at explaining. I'd still save the dog.

Or you could just not bother.

In all honesty, I'd probably not intervene, because me saving them opens a chance for me to get hit and die. You can't always get their attention and tell them to move out the way, either. "Better him than me." If it's someone I admire, them I'd save them over the dog and maybe hurt myself in the process.

I'm not risking my life for someone I don't know. They were in the wrong place at the wrong time — Not my fault.
