I found I shiny Geodude in Crystal when I was about 5 or so. I was like "wut" and I just ran. I remember telling my brother at some point and that's how I learned about shiny Pokemon.

Aside from event Pokemon, like Gyarados, my first shiny was a Basculin.

I saw it, and I thought, "Basculin is worthless. Free EXP"

Yup. Female Lv. 11 Magikarp. I was like, "Why is this thing golden?" Found no use, caught it. Looked it up and saw it as Gyarados.
