I'm a bit concerned about Mario and the Wii U

*sigh* Nintendo, what have you done to Mario? Borrowing heavily on past elements was acceptable with 3D Land, but now they have to rehash every new Super Mario game it seems.
I saw New Super Mario Bros U, and laughed. It looked like a Wii game. Is this how Nintendo is showing off its supposedly next gen hardware? Ha. It may have some good stuff going on with the gamepad so I may let it slide, but the fact is that I see almost no visual improvements over the last New Super Mario Bros disgusts me. Then we have New Super Mario Bros 2, which looked awesome to me at first, but I had my doubts. After viewing the 3D trailer my hopes were completely dashed. The graphics are pitiful, the backdrops are extremely blurred (Intentional?) and it looks like New Super Mario Bros DS running at a higher resolution with smoothed out edges. I see no gameplay innovations. Just Mario going coin crazy, and since the Tanooki Tail did good in 3D Land, they have to bring it back in this game. They'll be milking it pretty soon. Whatever happened to each new Super Mario game bringing a completely new, ground breaking concept to the table? Look at Galaxy, look at World, look at 64, look at the first New Super Mario Bros. And then you have these games, which are basically the same but with some tweaks and new power-ups. Maybe I'm wrong, but NOTHING I have seen so far has convinced me otherwise.

And then we have the Wii U itself. One Gamefaqs user pointed out that it uses six year old hardware and is supposed to last until 2018. How will that work? Sadly, as of now the Wii U is simply playing catch up with the HD consoles. *looks at Arkham City, Mass Effect 3* Maybe it will sell better then the Next box and PS4, but do you really want another generation where Nintendo's home console can barely multiplat, and as a result misses out on numerous 3rd party games while being a laughingstock in the hardcore gaming community?

Maybe my fears are groundless, but Nintendo has me a bit worried here.

I have no 3DS concerns though.

It does have hardcore games, but most are just catch up ports, and Nintendo isn't using the graphics in a very efficient way.

About Mario: True. It does indeed seem like they're slacking off on that, especially on Mario Bros for the Wii U. 3D Land was innovative in it's own way, not as much as the old Mario games, but innovative enough.

Yes, it's in Nintendo's nature to do this casual stuff. I have to admit that I actually like their style, even though I'm kind-of a hardcore gamer (I'm one of the few, though)

The Wii U will have one or two years to get ahead since both Sony and Micro haven't released their new consoles. And yes, we need some new Mario experiences. I'm suprised that two same Mario games but different versions are being released. It's really the same thing. New Super Mario Bros. Wii kinda sucked, so why should we look forward to two more games?

I think the Wii U will do good though.

You finally realized the WiiU isn't that great? Thank goodness.

But I'm buying it anyway for Scribblenauts. HAHAHA DISREGARD THAT, I'll just buy the 3DS Version. No need for multiplatform-ing unless it's got exclusive content.

The Wii U has plenty of hardcore/mature games, but like I said, they are all ports or multiplat, not exclusives. My concern is that the Wii U may not be able to multiplat with the 720 and PS4, and it will be like the Wii all over again.
ZombieU is really the only mature Wii U exclusive right now.

I like what nintendo is doing. Trust me these titles will look super when they come out. Its just videos cant show it right; Because of video quality. But in other words Just wait till Retro Studios comes out with their game(hoping for Metroid Prime 4)it will be worth waiting for. For me Im goin to get Pikmin 3 first, cause Ive been waiting forever for that title.

If there is a controller designed for hardcore gamers, will it work for casual games or just hardcore?

Because I know if you use the hardcore controler for the games you won't be able to see what will be on the Gamepad screen as you play. I'm sure all games use the Gamepad screen. So does the controller work with all or some games?

Probably both ash. Only time can tell if it will work for all. When this stuff does come out just look at the compatible controllers schemes on the back of the game disk case.

In the end, it will sell millions. It always does
gamer365 (2012-06-06 14:15:56)
Not Really. It depends its launch. It would be really bad tactic to release NSMB U and NSMB2. It would cause this.
People would be confused Which to buy, so both sales would be low. right?

They will both sell bucket loads, and NSMB U will give the Wii U launch the momentum it needs, while NSMB 2 will gives the 3DS its pre-holiday sales. They are spaced months apart, so people will get both. I'm not talking sales, I'm talking quality.
