I have to agree with Screamer.

The 360 and PS3 were extremely expensive to make at the time, and cost MS and Sony quite a bit despite their higher price tags.

Wii was way cheaper and Nintendo profited on every console sold.

Obviously people wouldn't be flocking out to get the 360/PS3 in their early days when you had the cheap Wii that came with a free game.

Wii U beating the 360/PS3's first week sales isn't too impressive, especially considering that way more people game now than in 2005-2006.

lol @screamer you really think the wii u will end up like the wii?! hate to say it but microsoft/sony wont make an amazingly powerful system. Especially sony since they really cant afford it consedering how terribly the PSVita is selling. Times are tough and the average person wont buy a 400$+ console. Hell the Wii U isn't selling as well as it should because most people still find it a bit too pricey (ignoring the fact on how terribly they advertised it).

and yes the wii u is next generation simply because it comes after the wii which was 7th generation making the wii u start the 8th generation of home consoles.
