A sequel to the DS hit, New Super Mario Bros, has came out. Was this 6 year wait worth it? Is this game worth 40 hard earned dollars? Lets find out in my New Super Mario Bros 2 review!

Story
As always it is the same old story, Princess Peach gets kidnapped by Bowser and Mario must travel to 8 worlds to save her. And you think Peach would have learned by now, but she still gets kidnapped. So this time around, instead of traveling to 8 worlds to save Peach, you only travel to six. There are 3 extra worlds though, making it a total of 9 worlds in this game (The most worlds in a Mario game). Along the way, you battle the infamous Koopa family and some minor dinosaur bosses. But something they added to the story, is the universal goal of collect 1 MILLION COINS, which makes the game totally replayable.

Graphics
In this game, the graphics are somewhat visually improved from New Super Mario Bros DS. The enemies, bosses, level design, and even Mario look visually improved. It is a joy playing a Mario game in these colorful colors and crisp graphics. The only problem I see is that for a 3DS game, the 3D is nonexistent. When you turn on the 3D, the background just gets blurry, and you will just prefer to play the game in 2D mode.

Controls
Once again, Nintendo masters their easy to learn controls in this game. There are 2 control options for running and jumping, and you can change them to suit your needs. You can control Mario with the circle pad or the d-pad, but using the circle pad feels odd and is not so accurate, so most players will prefer d-pad. Once you get the controls right, you will feel like a pro, dashing and doing amazing tricks in levels. If you have played New Super Mario Bros DS, the controls are kept the same way.

Multiplayer
This game support multiplayer, but only co-op multiplayer. Sorry to anyone who wanted to play Mario online with a friend. The co-op is fun and nice, but each player must have their own cartridge, so that ruins playing with friends or family who don't have the game. During co-op the camera follows the person with the arrow on top of them, but the two players can jump on top of each other and battle for control of the camera. During co-op you can only play as either Mario or Luigi, no toads this time. The good thing about co-op is that you get double the coins collected, and it is just a chaotic and fun as the Wii Mario title.

Streetpass
This game shows something new and fresh for Streetpass. It sports a new mode called coin rush, a mode when you must collected the most coins possible in a limited amount of time. This really shows how much of a pro you are. After getting your best score, you can share it via Streetpass and challenge other players scores. Nintendo has even offered paid DLC for this game that you can purchase in the in-game shop. Each course costs 2.50 so you better have some eshop cash on you. I think this mode was a well addition to the game, and makes it worth playing.

Extras
This game has a couple new power ups. A new power up called the golden fire flower transformation, this power up lets you transform into a mini Midas. You shoot fireballs and anything they hit turns into coins, which is really useful for the million coin goal. Another is the raccoon tail from Super Mario 3D Land, but this time, you can fly in it too. Another is the golden block, it turns you into a coin making machine, the faster you run, the more coins you generate. All these new power ups make this game unique from other entries that sport the same power ups.

The Verdict
Even with its few flaws, New Super Mario Bros 2 is a good game and it should be enjoyed among anyone who has a 3DS. There is nothing stopping you from enjoying this fun filled adventure (Other than the price tag). This game will keep you playing for months to come.

It really is a lazy rehash. Nothing new besides "coin collecting"? Even worse when you look at the DLC levels. Those levels make the regular ones look like "My first homebrew" type levels.

Super Mario 3D Land has 16 worlds, which is the most a Mario game has ever had.

And no mention of sound being just reused from NSMB Wii?

And praising the graphics is a strech, they are completely reused.

I am not getting this, my money will be better spent on Monster Hunter.

Awsome review as always but 8.9? hmm ok its a bit fine to be honest might get this game cause of coins and poor peeps have to spend $80 for multyplayer wich is not good.
