FrequentDeath(2013-02-14 00:30:39)Portal is a game I've been a fan of for quite a while now... I've completed both versions (the 1st and the sequel) and enjoyed them very much.
Please know that I'm not entirely sure if this is the true story behind the games.
Here it goes.
GLaDOS used to be human. She was married to Cave Johnson, and they had a teenage daughter- Carolyn. Cave was obsessed with science, and so he built robots called turrets. They served the purpose of defending Aperture Laboratories. One day, Gladys (assumed GLaDOS' human name) fell ill and died.
Cave resurrected her as a robot- GLaDOS. He set her to look after the labs and left the turrets with her.
Now superior and bigger than humans, GLaDOS figured out that she could control humans. The robots and dummies Cave manufactured to be test subjects were removed from the test chambers. She forced Cave to be a test subject. One of the test chambers malfunctioned, so Cave died.
GLaDOS then used Carolyn as her next test subject. Keeping her in and carrying her through test chambers, GLaDOS managed to keep Carolyn safe and alive for longer than Cave.
Letting Carolyn out to find her a new subject to test, Chell was found. Found on a park bench, shivering, and lonely.
Carolyn felt sorry for her and took her back to GLaDOS. In her anger, GLaDOS commanded the turrets to fire at Carolyn. She didn't want a homeless person! She wanted someone strong and healthy!
Feeling guilty, GLaDOS decided to let Chell try testing. She became friends with Chell and cleaned her up, figuring she wouldn't be stuck with her for too long.
GLaDOS was wrong. Chell survived all of the test chambers. This got on GLaDOS' nerves, so she attempted to kill Chell. Fighting back, though, Chell took GLaDOS out and then went back to live at Aperture in her designated room.
