Example of a Good Plot:
In Super Mario Galaxy, although the plot was simple, it made you not want to give up. You felt like the universe depended on you and it felt great to beat the game and finally have the Star Festival.

Example of a Bad Plot:

The story for NSMB2 was...
LOLKIDNAP
Which made the adventure feel a bit pointless.


I'm not saying these games are bad, just that plots do matter, even in Mario.

The plot is what goes along with the gameplay, making it a better game. Fire Emblem games are perfect games with awesome gameplay and interesting plots. Mario only gets high scores because critics are fanboys and the probably think the Set up was good.

@RinFujimaru-Yeah, the review scores on Mario are always inflated because sites like IGN and Gameinformer have Nintendo fanboys writing the Mario reviews.

And don't get me started on Nintendolife giving NSMB 2 a 9/10.

You can beat that game in one sitting, the graphics are utter crap, and there is zero innovation and improvements. Call of Duty has more game to game improvements than the "New" Mario series, do you realize how sad that is?

Obviously it takes place on the Mushroom Kingdom, but not all Mario games takes place there. The galaxy, Yoshi's Island, Isle Delfino, Sarasaland, etc.

Super Mario 64, the princess got kidnapped, but the main reason why it became popular is the gameplay. It revolutionized 3D open world.

I love games with a story or not, but a good stry is nice.

In Mario games? Only applies to the Super Star saga games and Paper Mario games. Graphics don't matter.
