Raining. Raining, when it was supposed to be sunny. Raining, when he was supposed to go biking with my friends. Raining, when the forecast had said it'd be sunny. It reminded him of that old nursery rhyme;

It's raining, It's pouring! The old man is snoring! He went to bed, and bonked his head and didn't wake up 'till morning!

It's summer. Things like this weren't supposed to happen. But, of course, it did. And for lack of a better term, Rained on his parade. He looked up from the window and saw his room. Quite spacious, since he took the time to tidy it. His bed was in the corner, and a few feet away was his desk. He shared his bed, (which was a bunk-bed) with his older sister. He wondered why they were called bunk-beds. A more suitable name for them would be bonk-beds, considering the fact that every time he woke up, his head hit his sister's bunk. "Matt! Where's my sketchpad?" His sister called. He rolled his eyes and grabbed it off of her bed. "Right here, Meg." He walked out of his room and down to the living room, where she was sitting. "Thanks." She said. He shrugged and went back to his room. Utterly bored. His life needed adventure! Or, at least, he wanted adventure. Maybe a dragon or something cool like that. But unfortunately, those were simply dreams that would never come true..

Or so he thought.

He was taking out the trash, when thunder shook the house. Cool! He thought. He threw on his raincoat and walked outside to deposit the trashbag into the dumpster, when a car zoomed by. It skidded, and crashed into the light-pole at the curb. "Whoa!" He exclaimed. He quickly deposited the bag into the can and ran inside to get Megan. "Sis! You gotta come see this! A car just wrecked, right down the street!" He explained. She rolled her eyes and got up. Slipping her shoes on and grabbing her cellphone. She didn't care for an umbrella, for she enjoyed being wet. Matt lead her to the wreckage, and Megan gasped. On the ground, right outside the driver's door, was the a man. Lying on the ground. He wore a black sports coat, and dress pants. His coat was smoking, and his hair was singed. "Hey.. Are you okay?" He asked, kneeling down to see if the guy was still alive. The man leapt up and grabbed Matt by the collar. Megan backed away and held her phone up to her ear. "Stop it! I'll call the police!" She yelled. He looked up and frowned, releasing Matt. "Take this.." The man said. He handed Matt a book. A leather book with a seal across the front. "Don't let it leave your grasp." He said. Then the man took off running. "H-hey! Where are you going?!" Matt yelled. But the man never turned back. "C'mon Matt. Let's go back inside." Megan said.

A few days passed since the strange encounter. But life continued pretty normally for Matt and Megan. She continued her sketching. He continued his daydreaming. And neither of them opened the book. They put it a cardboard box and hid it in their closet. So that their parents wouldn't find it. They had all but forgotten it. Until three days later.

"Matt! Come see this!" Megan called. Matt stood up from his desk and bounded down the stairs. "What is it? A new nail polish commercial?" He said sarcastically. Megan was staring at the TV, her face was pale, and Matt couldn't tell why until he gazed at the TV himself. The news was on, and a picture of a mutilated body was on the screen. The arms and legs were twisted at odd angles, the chest was torn open, and the eyes were missing. But the scariest part, was that it was the same man they had seen during the car crash. Matt turned the TV off. The image firmly planted in his mind. "The book.." Megan and Matt said in unison. Megan got up and bounded up the stairs to retrieve the book, and Matt followed numbly behind her. "I-I think we should burn it.." Matt said. He knew he'd always dreamed of adventure, but this wasn't it.

This was a nightmare.

Megan unearthed the box that held the book and pulled it out of the closet. "You wanna open in? Or shall I?" Megan asked. Matt held the book for a moment. Wondering what would happen when they opened it. "Let's both open it.." He said. He took hold of the front and she took a hold on the back. "One.. Two.. Three!" They opened it, expecting to die or something, but nothing happened. And then something happened. It was different for each of them. For Megan, it was a burst of fire and heat. For Matt, it was a blinding flash of light and a crack of thunder. They closed the book and gasped. Dropping it. "I told you we should've burned it.." Matt protested. "F-fire.." Megan stuttered, dumbfounded. "You saw fire? I just saw a blast of pure white light." He said, rubbing his eyes. "What should we do with it?" He asked. "Hide it." Megan replied.

And so they did. Leaving it alone for a week. Forgetting the experience that day. And going on with their lives like normal teenagers. Megan was driving them home from school when the car exploded.

Yes. The car exploded.

Megan and Matt raised their arms to shield their faces as the engine burst into flames and the windows crashed. "Out! Get out!" Matt yelled. They unbuckled and leapt out of the car, right as a second explosion sent it careening into the woods that lined the road. "What is going on?" Megan gasped. Then, realization struck them. "The book!" They said in unison. They ran home as fast as they could and rushed inside, up the stairs, and into their room. "Where'd you put it?!" Matt asked frantically. "I don't know! You were the last one with it!" Megan protested.
"No, you were!"
"Nuh-uh! I gave it to you!"
"Oh, here it is.." Matt sighed in relief as he held it up. A voice from behind spoke. [black] "That belongs to me." [/black] It sounded like discord. Chaos. Anger. All evil roots, rolled into a single voice. It wasn't even a voice, was it? It came from no discernable source. The two turned around and saw a shadow. It was the outline of a man. His eyes glowed yellow, and, other than that, the rest of his body was black. "Y-yours?" Megan asked. They were both afraid. Both ready to bolt. Both thinking they were gonna die. But, both were angry. Neither wanted to see eachother hurt. And, who was this guy, anyway? Bursting into their house and threating them. The shadow struck Matt, though it didn't seem to move. He flew into the wall and slumped down. This made Megan's anger outweigh her fear. She punched the Shadow in the face, but her arm went into him. She pulled it back in surprise, and got an idea. She rushed over to Matt and picked him up, and then charged into the Shadow. Passing through time and space. Feeling like it took years. Until they finally landed in what they would soon know as the Nightmare Dimension.

Matt was unconscious, and Megan had to carry him quite a ways before finding a place to rest. "Your way to heavy!" She grunted as she set him down Megan sat next to him. Half of her worried, the other half hoped for somebody to find them. Wherever they were. She was in an open, empty plain. Scorch marks were here and there, but nothing really interesting. It soon became nightfall. And nightfall in the N-zone, is perilous.

Megan sat by a fire she had made. Matt was cradled in her lap. She stroked his hair, and prayed he'd get better. She heard odd howls. Thinking it was simply wolves, she ignored them. But, they were much more than howls and wolves. They were called Gore Hounds. Creatures that tear apart and devour anything they smell. She stood up. Setting Matt on the ground, and watched the Hounds creep up. She was mad now. Mad at that stupid thing. Mad at this place. Mad at herself. Simply angry. And the anger transformed her. She felt it within her chest. The anger growing, it was like a fire being nurtured into a pyro. "Wh-what's happening to me?" She yelled. Her muscles expanded, as did her body. Her skin turned to scales and her eyes grew bigger. She clutched her stomach. Feeling the fire grow. In mere moments, she was a dragon. Wings, tail, everything.

One of the hounds leapt up at her, and she swung her tail at it. Smashing into its face and crushing its skull. She didn't want to stick around, so she grabbed Matt with her front legs and took off. Her flying was unsteady for a time, and she nearly dropped Matt a couple times, but got the hang of it eventually. She landed outside of a city, and stayed their for fear of the inhabitants killing her.
She set Matt down and curled up around him, shielding him with her wings, and fell asleep.

Matt awoke first. He was filled with terror, because he was surrounded by a white leathery substance. He screamed and tried to get out, but couldn't move. Megan woke up after his scream, and opened her wings. Matt yelled and stumbled backward. He gazed at the dragon before him in awe and terror. "I know I've always wanted to see a dragon, but this is too much!" He mumbled. Megan stared at him, forgetting she was a dragon. She opened her mouth to speak, but instead flames burst forth. Matt dodged them and took off running towards the city.

Megan was stunned for only a moment before she flew into action. She flew over and picked up Matt, and then flew over the city. Matt was to paralyzed with fear to struggle, and Megan was both sorry and happy about it. She flew to an open spot in the field and set down, still holding Matt. "Lemme go!" He yelled. Megan sat and watched him squirm, Debating on whether to let him go or not. Then she got an idea. Flew over the field and burned her name into the grass, then the words: "Is holding you." Matt stared down at the flames, reading the words a dozen times before it actually made sense.

Megan landed and set Matt down. He stumbled, and would've fallen if Megan hadn't caught him. "Dragons... Your a dragon.. You saw fire in the book, Right?" She nodded her massive head. "I saw light.. Blinding light.. What does that make me?" He wondered aloud. Megan rested her head on the ground and thought. Matt layed down and looked up in the sky. It was almost sunrise, but had gotten no sleep. He closed his eyes in hope of some, and eventually fell asleep.

He awoke to Megan's freckled face. "Whoa!" He said, startled. Then he noticed, he was looking into Megan's face, Not a dragons. "You.. Your.. Not.." He couldn't seem to form the words because of his excitement. "Yes, Matt. I'm not a dragon!" She exclaimed. They both laughed and hugged eachother, then laughed and hugged eachother some more.

After they stopped the happy reunion, Matt asked a simple question; "Where are we gonna go now?" "I don't know.. Maybe explore the village a bit.." Megan responded. "Well, that sounds okay." Matt said, shrugging. They stood up and prepared to go explore. The village was at least an acre away, so Matt and Megan took a steady pace. They arrived shortly after, and saw the devastating state the once grand city was in. "I wonder what happened here.." Matt wondered aloud. Megan felt sick. The city was no longer a city. Simply a husk, slowly melting away from existence. Matt leapt up onto a small rooftop, and surveyed what he could. They both stayed silent, trying to listen to any signs of life. "Let's split up." Matt suggested. "What? And get lost?!" Megan protested. "How about this; We meet at the gat on the other side in two hours." Matt suggested. Megan reluctantly agreed, and the two took off in separate directions.

Matt junped from rooftop to rooftop, in hopes of spotting someone. He landed on a charred wooden roof, and, as expected from such a rotted slab of wood, he fell through. He landed inside and coughed. The entire room was filled with dust. He wheezed for a moment and stood up. The room wasn't very large, and only had a single window. There was a once beautiful rug on the floor, but now it was in tatters, probably due to moths being nested in here. He stepped on the rug, and heard a clank. Curious, he stomped again. He lifted the rug to reveal a trapdoor in the floor. He lifted it up cautiously, and, being curious, jumped in.

Megan was exploring the ground side of the city in hopes of finding survivors of this post-apocalyptic city. She peeked into a few houses and such, but found no one. Coming across a market, she saw a creature, darting around in the shadows. "Hello?" She called out, and saw two beady little eyes stare out at her from within the darkness.

Matt was hurtling through a slide. It was rough and he scraped himself up pretty bad, but the worst part was the landing. He launched out of it into a room, and landed on-top of someone. The person under him gave a muffled yelp as he collided with it. He coughed and slowly got up, and saw who he landed on. It was a girl, and jumped back in surprise and humiliation. Then he noticed, he was surrounded be girls, all sitting on the dirt floor of this hidden room, all bound and gagged. All, in tears. Astonished, he went to the woman he landed on and removed her gag. "What's going on?" He whispered. Logically, if there were hostages, there'd be people holding them hostage. "We are slaves, waiting to be sold." The woman said quietly. "Not while I'm here." He said.

Megan gazed at the eyes and slowly approached. "Come on out.." She said calmly. The little creature emerged, and she saw it was a child. It was small and underfed, almost skin and bone. It's hair was dirty and it's arms were scraped up and rugged. She couldn't determine the gender of the poor creature, but approached it nonetheless. Tne little thing growled at her, but she continued slowly moving toward it. It growled slightly louder, and bared it's teeth. She saw fangs, and nearly gasped, but kept a calm, serious smile as she approached. "I won't hurt you." She said. She held out her hand, to help it, but the little creature lunged.
