I can't play M-rated games. But I haven't wasted time trying to convince my dad to let me play it either.


But next year I'm staying hopeful. Moving on to high school and being the only child in the house might prove helpful in my dad's decision.


But it's not like any of you guys care.

I grabbed TF2 when I was 13. It was only $10, though I had to explain to my parents that I wouldn't grab a bat and start beating heads in.

There's a certain store around where I live that sells M rated games to anyone, regardless of age. My parents don't seem to mind. Though, they probably haven't seen enough of the violence. I buy my own games, but I know my parents would be careful when it would come to buying me games. I try not to buy games above T, though.

I'm 16 so my parents don't really care unless it's something notorious like GTA. In a year I'll be able to legally buy them myself anyway so yeah.

Some tips for you with parents who won't let you play

Download: Download them, that way they won't see the rating on the box

Research ahead of time: So you know where inappropriate stuff is so you won't stumble into it when they're watching

Another good idea is show them vids that feature the least offensive stuff.

All you really have to worry about is wether or not the clerk cares or not. If he is one of thse types who gives your parents a warning and explains why, thats where the problem comes in. I plan to pick up Deadpool soon, so I hope this won't be a problem.

I'm not really interested on M games. I like games better between E-T. But my parents don't mind if I play some. My first M game I played was GTA San Andres when I was 8.

I can play rated M games, but it depends in the genre. For example, I can play a fighting game or rpg regardless of rating, but with FPS, it depends. I can play Call of Duty and Battlefield since its mainstream and it not as bad as other FPSs out there, but not GTA or Saints Row since they think my little siblings will be badly influenced by it.

It all honestly depends on how much your parents trust you. My dad doesn't give a ***** what I play so's long as I'm not raping anyone. My mom lets me play them, but has to check them out first. I can play games like CoD, DOOM, Halo, and Army of Two with little discussion. However, she has problems with games like GTA and Saints Row. Damn you, Rockstar, putting hookers and strippers in an otherwise family-friendly game.

Really, though, video games are demonized in the media. You don't need a parent to buy an R-rated movie or a CD with the "Parental Advisory" label on it. I think it has to do with all the controversy stirred up by the scrapegoat games (you know... games that are hilariously offensive and have no real audience until they're pointed out? Ethnic Cleansing, JFK Reloaded, V-Tech Rampage, RapeLay, etc...) and from lawyers who put too much emphasis on games that seemed to influence crime but in all actuality probably didn't. It's stupid...
