"Baa!"
Boring 'ol sheep.. He thought. "He", being the young boy sitting in the pasture, tending his mother's flock. But of course, being a boy, he longed for adventure! Something beyond the ordinary mediocre life he lived. He would much rather be slaying dragons and such, exploring beyond the mundane village he called home. Rescuing damsels, fighting in heroic quests, weilding a sword so shin-
"Baa!"
Of course, all that was most likely impossible, and never going to happen. He felt alone in his lust for excitement and adventure. Previously, the most exciting thing that happened was the ol' Geezer, breaking wind and belching simultaneously, sending everyone into an uproar of laughter.
He sighed. Things like that would probably never happen. Ever. But, one could always hope, right?
He sat quietly. Listening to the peaceful sounds of the numerous birds, the rustle of leaves, the wind, and..
The clopping of hooves?
He listened intently, and his hearing confirmed it. There was indeed a horse approaching! He searched the fields in hopes of spotting the rider, and eventually caught a glimpse of one of in the distance. He waited a few moments for the rider to disappear, but then realized, the rider was coming for him!
"Ho, rider!" He yelled, waving. As the rider approached, he could tell who it was. It was, in fact, his older sister. Come to fetch him for dinner, most likely.
She approached swiftly, and leaning to the right and extending her hand, yanked her younger brother up off the ground and onto the horse without so much as stopping to catch her breath. "Have fun in the fields today, Nate?" She asked teasingly. "Oh yes. Battling massive hoards of the worst enemy possible!" He said. "And what enemy would that be?" She asked, smiling. "Mosquitos!" He laughed.
The house wasn't quite far, but far enough to ward a few minutes of riding to and fro. When they reached the house, Beth (Nate's older sister) dropped him off at the house and took her horse to the stables. penning it up for the evening. Walking back to the house, she noticed something queer. A figure, perhaps a man, standing up the road. Simply standing. Possibly watching her.. She dismissed it simply as a traveler, stopping to rest, and went inside.
"Go wash up for dinner, dear." Nate's mother said. He headed upstairs to his room while Beth went to her room on the ground floor.
Should I braid my hair? Or curl it? Beth wondered. She twirled it, tugged at it with a brush, combed it, and such. She was preparing to go into town tonight, to pick up a few necessities for her mother and father.
Whilst Beth was solving the life altering crisis of hair, Nate was in his room, fighting off imaginary monsters. "Take that!" He said as he jabbed, sliced, parried, blocked, cut, and ducked. He leapt onto his bed, taking on a posture of triumph. Unfortunately, though, he was to close to the edge and fell off. "Oof!" Which made a resounding thump that alerted his mother.
"Nathaniel Markus!" She called as she stormed up the steps. "Quit playing around and wash up before your father gets home, or else I'll give you a gold spanking!" She said iratedly. "And give me that stick!" She swiped Nate's "sword" from him, snapped it in two, and chucked it out his window. "Mother! That was my staff!" He protested. "A very flimsy staff if ever I saw one. Now rid yourself of that lust for adventure!" She scolded. "One day I'll have an adventure." He said defiantly. "Adventure? More like trouble. Don't go stcking your nose in places it doesn't belong." She scolded, again. "Why not? That's the only way I found out Beth was a wizard.." He protested.
His mother stuttered for words. How could he have possibly known? She wondered. She simply huffed and went back to preparing dinner. "Wizards? Hmph." Truthfully, Beth's parents despised the idea, but who's to go against the Grand Mage's wishes?
