Nin10dude789(2013-08-13 01:24:53)Yay! My first review in a long time since I last reviewed LMDM. Today, I'm reviewing a GameCube classic, Super Monkey Ball. Shall we get started?
Super Monkey Ball is Sega's first game to release on a Nintendo console, developed by Amusement Vision. Was a GameCube exclusive (I know it also came out for the N-Gage, but nobody cared about it). It was also an original GameCube launch title. So is this a good retro game to play? Let's see!
STORY
This game doesn't really have a story, actually. If you see the game's intro video, the monkeys will go anywhere to get bananas, from the middle of the jungle, to the dessert, to the artic, and even to outer space.
Overall, just wierd.
GAMEPLAY
The point of this game is to roll the monkey inside the ball by tilting the Control Stick and guide the monkey to the goal to advance to the next stage. Very simple controls, but the stages get harder and harder as you progress. Therse 3 difficulties, Beginner (10 stages, 3 bonus) Advanced (30 stages, 5 bonus) and Expert (50 stages, 10 bonus, 10 master levels) making a grand total of 108 stages.
Overall, great gameplay!
VISUALS
This game has one of the best graphics! Very detailed, smooth, sharp, and crisp! Even better, it runs at full 60fps! You can see the floor's reflection, and the ball as well.
Overall, amazing graphics!
MUSIC & SOUNDS
The music is amazing! It's so memorable, catchy, and cool! The monkey's voice are cute, except for Gon Gon, but you can clearly hear them cheering, yelling, and hurting. The sound effects are also cool.
Overall, great amount of sounds!
CONTENT
Super Monkey Ball has a great amount of content for a GameCube game. First you have the main game, then therse a practice mode and practice any stages you've unlocked. Then comes the multiplayer games.
You can play the main game by taking turns up to 4 players. Then comes my favorite mode, Competition Mode!
But before I go into detail, I'll ask you this question, you know when you play multiplayer games, frame rate drops, right? Well, in Super Monkey Ball, it doesn't. Instead, the graphics quality decreases to keep the 60fps. Graphics still looks amazing, but not as great when playing in single player.
Now I got this cleared, let me explain the mode. In Competition Mode, 4 players will go against each other and race to the goal. We can choose up to 5 different stages from the main game and create a grand prix. The player who reaches to goal first, wins, and gets bananas. At the end of the prix, the player who has the most bananas wins.
More info to come. Sorry. I ran out of time. I don't want to cancel everything I just wrote.
