Note that I am playing Pokemon Y version but the games really have no differences other than obtainable Pokemon.
Hey guys, it's me mewtwo and I am here to review Pokemon Y. I haven't reviewed a game in a long time, but it promised to review this particular game, so let's so how I do.

Finally the long wait after the fateful January 8th Nintendo Direct that left the world anticipating for Pokemon is over and the next generation of Pokemon is here. But has the Pokemon Company made the perfect transition into the 3DS with this main series Pokemon game? Let's find out

Story
Just like every other main series game, you wake up in your room, get your starter, go on the quest to "Catch Em All" while collecting all the Gym Badges and defeating an evil organization along the way. Now with the Pokedex going up to a staggering 719, catching them all is now more difficult than ever, but this will keep people hooked on for a while. Anyways the simple formula of the story structure may have been around for a while but it's what works and does well every time. This adventure takes place in the new Kalos region filled with new sites to see, trainers to battle, and Pokemon to catch. So as I have said, in this game while collecting Gym Badges and "Catching Em All", you must solve the mystery of the new Mega Evolution mechanic and defeat the evil organization Team Flare that plans on exploiting these Mega Evolutions and Pokemon to return the world back to its "Natural State". And as always, you have a rival that competes with you all the way. This time around the story takes a slow dip. You may have 5 friends traveling around Kalos with you, but my god, they have no personality at all. Battling your rival Serena/Xavier felt so boring, they didn't have that unique personality that previous rivals like Barry, And Green had. And your other companions have these set personalities that they stay like the entire game. By the end, they don't feel like they changed a lot compared to the start of the journey. Other than the lifeless friends you travel with, the story seems pretty interesting. This game has a story of about 35 hours and even when you beat the story there are so many things to keep you busy, especially online multiplayer if you have Internet.

Gamplay/Graphics
In every Pokemon game is the trend of battling Pokemon, training Pokemon, breeding Pokemon, traveling to distant places, and such. This game has those same mechanics but expands upon it. For starters, there is the new Fairy type Pokemon that now can limit those overpowered Dragons. Adding this new type has now added more strategy in creating the perfect team in battle. This is also the first game where you can finally have player customization. You can finally design your characters clothing, and appearance. This feature lets trainers around the world represent themselves in a better way. With hundreds of different stuff to do to your trainer, almost no 2 trainers look the same now. Battling Pokemon is still the same as ever, yet it seems to be much more addictive. The Pokemon Company has totally revamped the battle system appearance. Now every Pokemon is in 3D, along with every attack and evolution in 3D. This makes battles much more enjoyable. I would just love getting into battles and watching them fully rendered in 3D. It's the same battle system but with a fresh coat and paint, and it looks gorgeous. A new feature added to the battle system other than Fairy types are the new Mega Evolutions. Only a handful, of Pokemon are able to achieve it, but once a Pokemon is equipped with the Mega Evolution stone and once you have unlocked transforming in the story, the Pokemon will change form and become a stronger version of itself. Mega Evolutions give Pokemon new appearances, sometimes new abilities, type changes, and state changes. Pokemon can be evolved once per battle and automatically revert back to normal after battle. Mega Evolutions now add a new layer of strategy into battle and it can be challenging to collect all the Mega Evolutions, but it is all worth while. Now, regarding the overworld view, I am very impressed. Gone are the tiny sprites and now replaced with fully rendered 3D objects and buildings. Everything looks gorgeous on the overworld map, especially the gigantic Lumoise City. This City may be considered 3 times the size of Castelia City from Black/White and it looks beautiful. It's actually so big, that I got lost in it the first time around. Everywhere else looks rendered beautifully on the 3DS screen and there are many different terrain in Kalos that we can explore and gaze at. The Pokemon Company has truly worked hard to create a gorgeous region. One hiccup may be that you cannot use 3D at all on the overworld except for selected areas. And in battle, using the 3D can drop the framerate drastically. So 3D may be the only problem with this pretty game. Some new mechanics is the inclusion of the PSS, where players can use internet capabilities, instead of running to a Pokemon center as in previous games, Super Training, which can train a Pokemon's stats which makes EV and IV training so much easier, and Pokemon-Amie for players can let their Pokemon and okay with them in various mini games.

Online Capabilities
I would have to say that this is the best Pokemon game when it comes to online connectivity. From the bottom screen of your 3DS system, you can start battles with Friends or Random people, trade with the GTS, send messages your friends can see, Game Sync, voice chat with friends, and so much more. Gone are the days of running to a Pokemon center and now are the days of online multiplayer everywhere. Wifi battles run without hiccups and trades go smoothly. Now with PSS, you can always jump out of the main adventure and get into online multiplayer with friends at any point during the game. As long as you have an internet connection, you are never alone. And now thanks to the competitive online community Pokemon has created, there are millions of people you can meet, trade, and battle with. Battling online with random people is so much fun since everyone is different and has their own strategies. The PSS has ushered in a new way of connectivity on the og and I can tell it is here to stay for future games. Online Connectivity is sure to have people hooked up on Pokemon for months, and even years to come.

Sound
This game uses many new and remixed tunes during the course of the adventure. The new music never got to old and there even some new favorites in the mix. We can obviously tell that Pokemon wanted this game to sound beautiful. There's really not more to say about the music since it succeeds to sound amazing. Another great job in the audio department from Pokemon.

The Verdict
This game is another great installment in the core Pokemon series. After all the disappointing Pokemon spinoffs on the 3DS, we finally have a core Pokemon game, and it is worth the wait. So for all of you guys on the fence about buying it, go get it. It is definitely one of the highlight titles in the 3DS lifespan.
