Here is the story of how I got rejected in my three consecutive fails in the school Cricket team trials and at last I got selected on my fourth attempt:
In 6th grade:
I was very excited the last night I got to bed, I was pretty much confident that I can get the chance to represent the 45. I got up on the date of that exciting occasion, I took the kit and I was on my way to my college's ground, I easily found my coach and he asked me that what would I like to help with (Batting or Bowling), I chose to bat. He gave me the 31st number and I was in the dressing room waiting. At last when he called my name and asked me to give the trials, I was nervous, that was my first ever trials in the age of 11. I took my position and the bowler came running to me, I missed the first bowl and It went flying to the wicket-keeper. I also missed the second and the third bowl, but on the 4th bowl, I thrashed the bowl in the covers for four. My confidence boosted up and I played a solid defense on the 5th and 6th delivery. But my performance didn't impress the coach and he asked me to go home. I was totally disgusted with that performance. I got home and the rest of the day went rough.
In 7th grade:
Keeping in view the last performance in batting, I chose to ball when the coach asked me. I was there quite early and he gave me the 11th number, I waited for sometime and he called my name, he threw the ball to me and I started the run-up, My bowling pace wasn't that impressive on the first two deliveries. So I tried hard to bowl with a classy pace the remaining deliveries, and surely I clean bowled the batsman, I was happy and I thought in my mind, "Hasham you're selected!", but due to that over-confidence I believe, I threw FOUR wide balls. FOUR WIDE BALLS! The coach surely wasn't expecting that from me. And after sometime I found my name removed...
In 8th grade:
I was double minded the last night and I woke up late the important day. It was 8, I hurried but I was late and the list was complete, so there was no choice. I had to go back, and cursed my luck.
Inter-house Championship (9th grade):
May 10th, 2014, I had to work hard for this. This was the biggest of tournaments that are held in our College, I was so early and I got the 2nd number, I chose to bat again and I played the full over (6 balls) well. My coach marked my name in the batsmans' list, I was so happy that I felt like kissing the coach. He also gave me the chance in bowling but I didn't do well, but still I was in the batsmans' list and that was enough for me.
Never lose heart my people.
