There is a law in this particular community college. One which newcomers see as some typical threat formed by gossip, but later realizing that it's made for one specific purpose. Safety.

"Do not approach him. Keep the distance between you and himself at least ten meters or he will punish you. If you happen to make eye contact accidentally, immediately turn around and walk the opposite direction until you are out of his sight. This way, you are showing him that you know you are inferior. If you learn his name, do not call out to him. Follow these instructions under any circumstances. "

Luke Gyri was a pretty dangerous guy. He would immediately attack anyone who came within 10 meters of him. Nobody has ever heard him talk and he always somehow never got in trouble with the authorities. The reason? There hasn't been any explanation yet but one theory is that this kid can erase the memories of any person he choses.

If only someone could fathom the idea of Lukes downfall. If only someone could bring back the people who were lost because of him. No, he hasn't killed anybody. However, those who are attacked by Luke inevitably lose both their memories and their emotions. They become a shell. How does Luke do it? Nobody ever knew.

One year, a new group of freshman arrived on campus, oblivious to what happens there. Inevitably, they are quickly warned about Luke and told that anyone who tries to go near him will have the living crap kicked out of them.

"It's for your own good."

They would say. Later that day, people started to notice someone strange who stuck out. A person with red eyes and gray hair. He was pretty tall and had very pale skin. Another thing that stuck out about him was that he was pretty skinny. It was as if he'd never seen food. He carried this metal thing around with him at all times that was the size of a staff. It appeared to be made out of solid gold and was shaped like the infinity symbol. He would twirl it around pretty quickly and swing it as if practicing to attack someone. Whenever he swung it, an odd humming sound came from the hole on the half of the infinity symbol facing away from the person holding it. Whenever asked about his staff, he would just smirk and ignore them.

Although his real name was Phil, he was given the nickname "Sir infinite" as a joke. The one who created this name was Marshal. He would usually be the only one in the room who was taller than Phil and seemed pretty strong. Yes, he was on the football team. He wasn't the very best player but he sure as hell didn't spend most of the games on the bench with his thumb placed firmly up his ass. He wasn't at all a muscle head, in fact, he was a pretty chill dude.

Everyone seemed pretty fond of Phil's strange behavior and the fact that he rarely spoke. He was liked easily and got on the good side of every single person on the campus. Except one obvious exception.

Half of the year had gone by and Phil was in his dorm, surrounded by his group of friends drinking coffee together, like they usually would. His friend Josh, a scrawny looking fellow who never combed his hair and was always hyper, was playing with Phils' infinity shaped staff, Tyler and Marshal were playing pokemon against each other and Dominic, Chase and Ian were watching them.

"God dammit! "

Yelled Tyler after losing to Marshal for the 45th time (Phil was volunteered to keep count.)

"Give up already man. Nobody on campus has ever beat Marshal. "

Said Chase.

Chase is a ginger, so as you would expect, everyone makes jokes about him. He's totally cool with it and loves being a ginger for that reason.

"His strategy is always just... So perfect."

Marshal looked over towards Phil.

"Sir infinite, you beat me once, didn't you?"

Phil nodded

"Really? Is that even possible?"

Said Dominic

Dominic was was usually the funny guy in the group. He makes fun of white people all the time. I bet you thought he was black didn't he? Wrong. He's Asian. Don't worry, everyone makes jokes about his race too. Most of them having something to do with rice.

"Well, Sir infinite does seem to be naturally good at everything."

Said Chase. He most certainly was right.

"Tyler... You look pissed. Are you alright? "

Said Josh. Josh was Ian's brother, even though the two didn't look alike at all. Ian looked like Frodo from lord of the rings, thus giving the group yet another thing to joke about. Josh, being the less lucky one had out if control achne and boring, thick hair that was impossible to comb.

"I have been trying... For so long to beat him... It has been my dream to finally conquer him and become the new champion... But you..."

Said Tyler, falling to his knees.

"You must tell me... What's the secret? How do you frickin' beat him??!"

Everyone laughed. On their way to class, they were still talking about pokemon. Walking down the hall was another kid named Stephen. He was always there at that time, on the way to another class. Whenever the group was talking about pokemon, he would sarcastically say "Nerds" with a smirk.

"Frick off, Stephen "

Marshal would say, and that was pretty much part of their daily routine. Was. It was awkward now, seeing Stephen walking down the hallway, a numb look on his face. Everyone simultaneously stopped talking and started to look down. They missed Stephen. Stephen was merely an example and a painful reminder of what happens when you disobey the law of safety. Desperate attempts have been made by friends and family to get his memory back, but nothing seemed to work.

About a week before, Phil and the gang were playing basketball. It eventually became everyone versus Phil because of how overpowered he was with his inhuman reflexes, strength, speed, ect. Not even the black guy in the group could beat him. Eventually it became dark and Stephen came to play with them. It wasn't often that they actually hung out with him. Eventually, after so many attempts to beat Phil, Stephen became the next victim.

"I have to piss..."

Said Stephen

The basketball court they were at was a pretty long walk from the nearest bathroom. So he ran into the woods. Shortly after, everyone looked toward the direction Stephen ran, in shock, after hearing him yell something that rhymes with spit.

For some reason, everyone seemed to not cuss anymore when they entered college so they were pretty confused. Until they saw Stephens body flying out of the woods followed by Luke angrily walking towards him. Not good. There was no way to see it coming. It was so dark out and the fact that he was in the woods didn't help at all.

After Luke beat the absolute crap out of Stephen with lightning fast punches followed by a 360 kick to the chest, Stephen became unconscious and it was far too late. The resentment towards Luke didn't last long.

Fast forward back to next week, and Luke is walking across the gym to the water fountain. Everyone bolted out of his way. Phil, the only one not angry at Luke studied him as he walked by. Luke was pretty freakin' skinny and so pale that anyone would assume he's dead if he ever lied down motionless. He had black hair that covered his eyes. Most people who were attacked by Luke, if not ignoring your question would tell you he had lime green eyes. That would be also pretty scary looking.

"Psst. Sir infinite. You're right on the edge of the ten meter boundary. Be careful, man!"

Whispered some random guy.

"Luke."

Said Phil.

Luke stopped walking and everyone's conversation simultaneously halted. Luke slowly turned as if tired, to face vaguely in the direction of Phil.

"DON'T HURT HIM, PLEASE!"

Almost everyone suddenly blurted out, followed by tons of other pleads for his mercy. Phil was in shock. Did everyone really like him that much? That was definitely going to make his one true task difficult....

"I'm a challenger."

Phil continued. Luke had just about as much hesitation as your mom when she's running toward a McDonalds. The speed he ran was something any normal human that had been an undefeated national track champion for years would never dream of being able to achieve. The wind around him distorted like crazy and suddenly, a flying kick came toward Phil at probably the speed of sound.

With both arms bent, elbows facing the ground, fists facing the ceiling, locked together in front of Phil's face, he blocked the attack, still getting pushed back a little with his shoes making a screeching noise as they both slid across the floor.

With his foot still on Phil's arms, Luke bent his leg and pushed off, doing a backflip to land back on his feet. Even if only for half a second, Luke's chest was wide open.

"Sir infinite! Run!"

Everyone said. Instead, Phil swung his infinity staff. Luke's reflexes, however allowed him to block it with his wrist. Despite how hard the staff was, it didn't even bruise him. Luke went for a few punches and kicks, all being blocked by Phil's staff. During this, Phil tried making sure he blocked in a way so that Luke's fist would go through one infinity hole by accident, allowing Phil to use a technique he had been practicing on Martial where he twists his wrist while quickly pulling the other person toward his direction by the arm, but off to the side so the other arm couldn't reach him. If quick enough, Phil could use his free hand to press down on as many pressure points around the persons elbow as he could, slightly disabling his arm so that he could finish him off quicker.

Of course Luke could fight him without one arm, but this isn't the reason Phil wanted to do this. If Luke saw him as a worthy opponent, he would unleash his true power. Although it wouldn't sound like a weakness, this would allow a major advantage for Phil. You'll see why.

At one point, Luke faked out Phil by swinging less than half way with his right hand, stopping, then swinging all the way with the other, nailing Phil right in the face pretty hard. This was followed by an uppercut strong enough to almost knock Phil on his back. Phil's right palm stayed on the ground while the rest of Phil's body swung up fast enough to let him land a kick on Luke's face, pushing him back before he could punch Phil in the stomach. With his right palm still firmly on the ground, Phil spun around so that he could land a kick with his other leg.

Luke caught the other leg in his hand, tried to kick Phil's other leg aside so Phil would land on his back, but barely missed when Phil pulled it back so far his knee right right below his own chin. Phil still fell back but he circled his grabbed leg around Luke's wrist, shoved his foot into Luke's elbow, but his bent back into Luke's hip, slid his back around, grabbed Luke's ankle, pushed with his legs, pulled with his hand, threw Luke backwards and climbed into mount position with his free hand up in the air, ready to swing down on Luke's face.

( if that last part was hard for you to picture in your head, read again and know that he did this all at once. This is based off a jiu jitsu move.)

The fact that Luke was so skinny and light made him able to shrimp out in less than half a second, despite him being so short. Phil hasn't got to land a single punch. Still, he knew the consequences of losing. Not only would he lose his memories but his journey up to this point would've been all for nothing. Everyone would also lose their memory of him.

The two young men jumped back up and went back to punishing and kicking. Phil's staff was a few feet away. Without holding it he landed a punch every once in a while but he wanted to finish this quickly so he could pass.

"How is this?"

Asked Phil.

The second Luke spoke, the crowd of scared friends suddenly went dead silent in shock.

"...I still don't know... ..weather or not you are capable. "

Replied Luke.

"I'll finish it then."

Phil waited for a chance, jumped over Luke and kicked the edge of his staff so it'd fly up back into his hand. After about four more punches, Phil was able to make Lukes fist go through a hole. He then used the technique. It went a lot better than Phil expected. To his surprise, he was able to completely disable Luke's arm just before Luke used the rest of his body to break his arm free.

Phil sprinted towards Luke at full speed, smashing the staff into his back while standing at the side of Luke's body that had the disabled arm so he wouldn't be able to fight against it as he was thrown backwards. Luke was flung back ten feet and landed on his back. He jumped back to his feet quickly.

"I see... You are part of the conquest."

Said Luke.

"I guess I'll have to use my full power now."

He continued.

Phil was confused. Usually when people fight others that are just like Luke, they pass the test after they prove they are strong enough and don't have to finish them off. On the bright side, Phil now had the advantage.

"Full power? What does he mean? Huh? What? Dafuq? "

Said the crowd.

Suddenly there was a spark in Lukes eye and a strange noise. Everyone suddenly completely forgot about the fight and continued as if nothing happened, not even able to see Luke and Phil.

Luke's body was completely covered in flames that he summoned at will. He dashed toward Phil at full speed. Phil quickly held his staff up and the hole facing the sky started to glow. The flames all over Lukes body suddenly attacked himself from all directions, causing an explosion. Luke was submitted by his own power.

Luke got back up on his hands and knees.

"I see. So that staff actually IS the real one."

Said Luke.

"Oh, I get it now. You wanted to use your magic so you could see if this was the real one?"

"Indeed. However, even though you were chosen, I'm gonna have to make you choose between fire and getting your memories back. "

Phil had lost his memories from before he was eight years old from losing to another person just like Luke at that age. Since he was so young, he didn't need the memories from back then.

"I can't help but feel obligated to choose fire powers. Collecting all the elements is my job now since I have infinity. "

Said Phil.

"Very well. I'm sorry about your loss. It's not even in my power to help you there. "

Later the same day, Phil thought about the first time he was given the infinity staff. It was pretty early in the morning and Phil was just eight years old. He had lost his memories, his friends, and his entire town three days ago. Despite his losses, Phil suffered a bit less than he would of since he lost his memories of everything. However, the negative feelings he had from losing his friends did not disappear with his memories. On top of that, he was now in a world of strangers. He didn't know anybody now and felt lost. He rarely ever talked anymore and was no longer amused by anything. This would eventually force him into growing up too quickly.

Old man Leo was the one who took him in and was involved with all this stuff involving magical powers that were going on. The reason the old man was so fond of Phil was because he had just witnessed him rematch Timothy. Timothy had earth powers. He was the one who supposedly taken the lives of each of Phil's friends, shortly before his city was destroyed by an unknown cause. In a fit if rage, Phil attacked Timothy and was defeated. At least that's what Phil was told after losing his memories.

After a day in the hospital, surrounded by people who were now complete strangers to Phil, sobbing over the loss of all his memories, there was and earthquake. Phil left the hospital with his legal guardians to evacuate the city.

What happened next was a blurr. What he did know was that the whole town was destroyed, a man who everyone referred to as "old man Leo" protected him, took him to a cabin deep in the woods and taught him about magic and how to defend himself.

Something about having all his memories cleared from his mind made him able to learn new things extremely quickly. Phil spent a whole day and night learning various types of martial arts. His strength increased as well due to the fact that even though Phil didn't realize it, he was always a tuff little man who would ruff house a lot with his friends.

Phil wandered around the remains of what was his home town the next day. He suddenly saw that Timothy happened to be there.

"That's Timothy..."

Said a decouple of Leo who had been sent to watch over young Phil.

Phil assumed that since Timothy was there, he must've been the one who destroyed the city. Not his memories, but Phil's emotions came back to him. His hatred towards Timothy burned brighter than ever as he screamed that he would kill him as he ran toward Timothy, despite the commands of Leo's decouple to stop and run away.

When Timothy saw Phil, he panicked and made a long arm with a fist at the end, entirely made out of stone pop out of the ground and launch toward Phil. Phil, with his new strength jumped, landed on the stone fist, ran across and jumped off it and landed a flying kick on Timothy's head, knocking him out in one hit.

Phil stood there for a minute, then suddenly realized he had now gained Timothy's ability. He controlled rocks around him with telekinetic like powers.

"Amazing... How are you already able to use the powers perfectly? "

Said the disciple.

Old man Leo had already been watching from a distance, amazed by not only seeing an 8 year old with no magical powers whatsoever defeat a twelve year old with extraordinary powers, but also being able to control the earth around him perfectly as if he'd been practicing magic for years.

"His level of maturity has allowed him to be focused enough to control his powers perfectly... This boy can become a god. "

Leo muttered under his breath.

Later that night, Phil was sitting at the edge of the cabin, contemplating as usual, not talking to any of the other people there who all were connected somehow to magic. An older kid came up to Phil and told him that the master ( old man Leo ) would like to see him in his room.

Once Phil entered, he kneeled down on one knee.

"Old man Leo, am I in trouble?"

"No need to kneel, my child. You have now been ranked just as high as myself. "

Phil lifted his head up. He knew what this meant.

"An eight year old? in charge of everyone else here?"

Asked Phil.

Leo handed him a staff shaped like the infinity symbol.

"This, Phil is a staff that can never be broken. It was once used by an invincible being. This weapon is called 'infinity'. There was a second weapon used by this being. It was called 'nothing'. The reason this infinity staff is one was one of his weapons was because it represents how nothing is truly broken. Once a tool is broken, it is never even close to useless. The particles in it will forever become part of something else. Nothing is ever truly broken. You will use this for your task. "

"You're choosing me? "

"Yes. There is nobody more qualified for the job. Once you are ready, you will battle several other people, just like Timothy who hide at other places in the world. They each have powers that you can collect by defeating them, exactly the same way you got your powers to control the ground. There are six different elemental powers you have to gain. These include fire, water, lightning, air, earth and aura. Aura is the one you can't get unless you have the other five. Will you do it?"

"Of course! I can't just let the world be destroyed."

"Good, good. Now, I will reveal the origin of these powers, meaning how they exist and why you need to collect them in the first place. "

Phil's flashback ended there when he was so spaced out that he ran into a pole. He extended his hand and flames came out of his palm.

"Two down, four to go. I won't let your death be for nothing, Leo. "

The end.

( I don't plan on continuing this, but I might if people really find this interesting. Sorry it took so long, Fluxer. I hope you enjoyed this :3 )

^ I'm seriously considering it. If I do, the rest of the story won't be here for at least a few months. I already have a storyline planned out, it's just gonna take forever to write it down and organize it.

Not bad, its pretty awesome! I just...dont see how this connects to the prompt...I'm really sorry, I'm trying, but I cant...
"I love your eyes...but only with ketchup."
AntiChrist (2014-05-29 19:24:50)
The part that connects to the prompt is when it mentions what really becomes of a tool when it is "broken". Instead of being useless, it becomes part of something else.

Hope you guys don't mind me bumping this. It hasn't been reviewed despite the link to this being posted in the contest thread. It probably didn't work or something.
