I think there already is something similar functioning for device detection.
For example, when I visit 3dsplaza.com on my DSi, first thing I see is a screen that asks me if I want to enter the website using the DSi-compatible version or the PC/3DS.

The PC version works pretty well on non-supported systems. Like a tablet.
