My attempt at making a sad story

Sam's version of ending is better. Jus' sayin' .o3o
Are you going to continue it?
Nah I'll just end it there. As for dramatic affect, What I was going for was to make Henry's death completely unexpected by saying he simply "didn't look too good" , causing the audience to assume that he was just sick and he maybe would be taken to the vet or something, until they found out it was already the end of the story.

Leo had just now arrived home after a slow, boring day at work. He threw his jacket on the ground, sat on the couch for a few minutes staring blankly at the television, and just shut his eyes for a minute.
"My job couldn't be any more boring."
He thought. Just as he was about to doze off, he was startled by the familiar feeling of little legs stepping right on his damn crotch. Just part of the crappy daily routine.
"Why must you always walk across my lap at this particular time of the day, Henry?"
Leo yawned
"Meow" said his cat, Henry as it proceeded to stare at him with what looked like disgust or disapproval. You know. Typical cat stuff. Henry stepped on Leo's crotch again.
"I don't know why you insist on trying to sterilize me, douche."
Said Leo as he picked up Henry and set him on the coffee table. As Leo walked over to the refrigerator, Henry knocked over the glass vase that was on the coffee table while maintaining eye contact.
"Hey, my wife gave me that vase. It was a birthday present. " said Leo while the cat just continued to stare at him with the same constant look on his face that said "I wish hell upon everything you love."
Henry blocked Leo's path as he tried to bring a plate of leftover pizza to the table. Every attempt not to step on him resulted in the cat moving itself to an even more inconvenient place. It's as of the bastard knows for a fact Leo is trying desperately to not step on him.
"Ugh" said Leo as he made his way to the table. While eating a couple of thoughts kept repeatedly going through Leo's mind. "Why do I hate my job so much even though I used to enjoy it? Why can't I seem to get motivated anymore?"
Suddenly he felt a shard pain in his leg. The cat was clawing on him, trying to get his food. Leo looked over at the cats food bowl. Henry still had plenty of his own food left.
"You just love screwing with me, don't you Henry?"
Later, Leo lay on his bed watching YouTube videos. The cat repeatedly stuck his face in front of the screen, blocking his view. "Jesus Christ, just for one day could you not do this?" Said Leo. Then again, what was the point anyway? Leo's attempts to entertain himself were meaningless. He might as well just put his phone down and lay there until morning.
"Henry, you're lucky I still keep you around..."
Said Leo. Suddenly he heard a somewhat quiet clinging noise. Looking up from his phone, Leo saw that in Henry's mouth was the locket his wife gave him.
"You... You found it."
He opened it up and inside it were his wife's last words.
"Please take care of Henry for me. You and him are the world to me."
Leo pat Henry on the head.
"Thanks you."
Said Leo.
"Meow."
As Leo started to drift off, Henry laid down on his chest and cuddled with him. Leo started to realize that he should be a bit more concerned about how Henry hadn't been eating much lately. He decided that he'd look into it tomorrow. The next morning Leo woke up to his alarm instead of Henry running across the room or stepping on his balls. Instead, he was in for a different kind of surprise. On the floor lay Henry, not looking so good.
"Henry?"
