The dream eater challenge.

In the town of Anlircliff (I made that name up) in the mountains of Jackson Whyoming, a mysterious disease, caused by a parasite had spread around a small town. Technology had not yet advanced far enough at that time for the parasite to be removed. Those infected couldn't be 100% cured.
What the disease did was give people really awful dreams. Some people eventually had them go away. For others, they were occasionally still there. Getting it at a young age, a boy named James had it pretty bad. The dreams did not come occasionally, but every single night. They had been there from the age of four to seventeen and they never went away. James had lost all hope of them going away.
One day, he had a different dream. In it, a cat like being came to him and made an offer.
"Hello boy. I have an offer for you. Each month, I choose 20 random people in the world to have a contest. One that exists within dreams only. The winner gets to have complete control of every dream they have. Are you interested?"
It asked. James thought for a second.
"Would you be able to make anything you want appear in your dreams?"
He asked.
"Yes. You can also distort your own sense of time, so that you can live in your dream world for thousands of years while outside your mind, only one physical second has passed by."
"In that case, I most certainly am interested."
Said James enthusiastically.
"Good. However, there is a catch. It's the very reason it's hard to find people to join the contest. The catch is that if you lose, you will never have dreams again. You see, When you lose I have all rights to your dreams and what I do with them is eat them. I eat them to survive. Whenever you humans dream while understand my contract, I am eating the dream as they are being created, thus preventing you from having any dream at all. Basically it will just feel like you had your eyes closed for a second, then suddenly it's morning. That is what it's like when you don't have dreams."
Immediately, James said "I would like to join the contest."
Surprised that he made his decision that quickly, the strange cat like being tilted its head.
"You don't care about the catch? Are you sure? It's not often that people don't care about their dreams."
Said the cat thingy.
"I always have awful dreams, no matter what I do... It's starting to affect my grades and whatnot and ruining my health completely. I've always needed more sleep. Not having dreams at all is better than how things are now."
Said James.
"I see. In that case, the contest will start tomorrow. I'll ask one more time though. Are you sure you agree to give me all your dreams if you lose?"
"I agree."
The next day was great. James had never not had a good dream in his life. Of course he didn't believe that the strange cat like being existed and could actually eat dreams. He thought that later he would go back to having really bad nightmares again. However, he was wrong.
The dream eater challenge was about to begin.
