It's dark.
I can't see.
I know what your thinking.
This beginning is so cliché.
The hero, waking up in a dark room.
Usually bound to a chair.
But this is different.
Because I'm not tied up.
Nor did I wake up here.
I walked in on this all on my own.
"BOO!" Rodger screamed and grabbed my shirt. I screamed as well, but twisted out of his grasp and fell to the floor.
Rodger laughed as I picked myself up. "Thats not funny, Rodger," I said as I dusted myself off.
"Oh my God..."Rodger was laughing so hard he struggled to speak, "You should have seen the look on your face, what did you think I was? A ghost?! "
He continued to laugh, but I ignore him. We had wandered into this creepy building on a dare that we couldn't stay the night. I agreed because a long time ago I thought Rodger was cute, and he would let me snuggle up to him when I heard "scary noises", but since that morning he'd been a jerk. I was regretting saying yes.
"Come on, Rodger, lets just find a place to camp for the night, alright?"
"Fine, Claire, don't get your panties in a twist."
We walked down a long corridor, amd we entered what looked like a house.
"Hey, didn't those kids say that this place was an abandoned slaughterhouse? Why does it look like someone lived here once?" Rodger felt for a light switch as he talked.
Having no answer, I stayed silent.
He found a switch, but flicking into the "on" position did nothing.
"Well, it looks as good as the next place to stop. Why not rest here?" Rodger asked.
I started to unroll my sleeping bag I'd brought with me. I didn't say anything.
Rodger frowned, "Hey, Claire, you mad about that scare? Cuz, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, or anything..."
I still didn't answer.
"C'mon, Claire, it was just a joke, please dont-" Rodger stopped midsentence when he saw what I did.
Words, written in dried blood, on the faded pink wallpaper wall across from us. "Leave now, get help".

(Update 1)

"Oh my God, Claire, what the hell?" Rodger shined his flashlight on it. "Is that...is that blood?!"
"I'm sure its just paint," I say, "probably something those guys put in here to scare us."
"I don't know claire, it looks like it's been here a while..."
"Does that mean you want to leave?"
Rodher considered it, then shook his head. "No, no, you're probably right. Those guys are idiots." He unwraps his sleeping bag as well.
As we settle in, I look around for a window, but there were none in our room, only two doors. One led back the way we came, one into darkness.
"So...what now?" I asked. It was a lot more boring than I imagined.
Rodger kicked at something on the floor, "I don't know, I've never stayed in a haunted house before."
That made me laugh, and I asked, "Really? You never got dared to stay overnight, or anything?"
Rodger shook his head.
"My friends and I used to go up to a 'haunted' house that was close to where we lived, and we'd stay up there all weekend, telling stories and socializing." I sat down on my sleeping bag, "but then we moved here, and I haven't talked to them since."
Rodger frowned, "really? You guys just, went there whenever you wanted? You didn't have a story, or a legend or anything behind the haunting?"
"Well, yeah, of course we did." I pulled out a piece of paper and focused on turning it into a fortune teller. "But thats all it ever was, a story. Until one girl fell and broke her kneck up on the old rafters...she lived, but it was banned from the public after that." I added on the last part at the horror in Rodger's eyes. I wasn't here to scare him, I was here to prove to everyone that the new girl and the town scardey-cat were capable of something.
"Anyway, lets talk."
"Huh?"
I rolled my eyes, "talk to me, I'm bored as heck in here."
"Sorry, sorry...I keep looking at those words..."
At that, I look back at them, too. "It's just paint Rodger. Vandalism was big at my old town, too."
"No, but..." Rodger shakes his head slightly, "nobody ever goes in here."
A few, boring, uneventful hours follow, and eventually the room falls dark. I peek into the other room and see the sun setting.
"There. Now we can sleep, and in the morning it'll be over."
Rodger didn't complain, just went and layed down in his sleepin bag. After a few restless minutes, he asked, "Do you want to know this places story?"

(Update 2)

I scoffed, "No, and I dont care to know, either. Little ghost stories and horror flicks never scared me, so why should your 'legend' be any different?"
"Because they say it's true..."
"They ALWAYS say it's true. Thats the scary part!" I look over, and Rodger was literally shaking. His Big-Boy act was gone, and his scardey-cat self was showing through.
"Hey, Rodger, it's fine, there's no one here. We're on the first floor of an abandoned building. All we need to do is sleep for one night, and then we can leave, no big deal, alright?" I try to reassure him, but he just rolls over and faces the other direction.
I roll back over as well, looking up at the ceiling. I instantly regret it, more words, like those on the wall, were barely visible above. I couldn't see what the said, so I pulled out a flashlight and clicked it on.
At the sound of the flashlight, Rodger turns and looks as well.
"She's watching you," I said, "thats what it says, 'She's watching you.'"
Rodger sat up and ran a hand through his hair, sweat appearing at the corner of his face, "She...the woman in the story was a she..."
"Well, duh. Hey Rodger, is that story well known around town?" I ask, a little fazed, but easily picking out the chipped painted edges of the words. I knew it was fake.
"Yeah, actually, almost everyone's heard about Kathy. One day, she went to visit-"
"No, stop, I've got what I need, no time for ghost stories."
"What does that mean?"
"It means that we're being pranked, Rodger. It's just paint, your buddies out there came in here and painted this stuff to scare us. It's nothing." I turn the flashlight off, and the room is emersed in darkness once more.

(update 3)

What started then was something that some would call impossible.

Others would laugh and say I made it up.

But I know what I heard as I closed my eyes, and it wasn't Rodger.

A low groan woke me, just as I started to fall asleep. I listened hard, but there was nothing else. I closed my eyes again and told myself to stop being ridiculous.

Again, just as I fell asleep, I heard a groan, as if someone was in pain.

Rodger asked, "...Claire, can you sleep?"

I sighed and said, "no," but didn't elaborate. The last thing I needed was for Rodger to pee himself because I heard noises.

"It's just...everytime I try, at the last second, I hear a woman screaming...and it wakes me up..." Rodger continues, looking at me through terrified eyes. "I really, really don't want to be here."

"If we survive through the night, we wont be made fun of anymore! " I said, even though my heart was beating quicker and quicker at the thought of staying a whole night.

I rolled back over and said, "Just sleep, Rodger, everything will-"

A loud scream interrupted me...it was the sound of pure torture, despair, and agony. It chilled me to the bone, so much that I wished I had gloves with me.

"What...?" Rodger started to ask, but let the question die.

He knew I couldn't answer it.
"I love your eyes...but only with ketchup."
