Chapter One:

He awoke to darkness. Pitch black darkness. He was in a sitting position on a cold surface. “Where am I?” He thought aloud. Feeling his way around, he discovered he was in a rather small room. The floor and walls were cold, indicating a metal of some sort. Sliding his hand along the wall, he found what seemed like a door. He found the knob and twisted. To his dismay it did not open. He kicked the door and grunted in pain. “Stupid metal..” He muttered. Mere seconds later he heard a loud creak, and then a crash. The little room flooded with light, bright and warming. He covered his eyes for a moment, and the slowly opened them as his eyes adjusted to the light.

Fully opening his eyes, he saw that the door had indeed fallen. The edges covered in rust. He looked around, and saw he was in a hallway. More large metal doors ran along the wall down the left and right, and white light along the ceiling. He contemplated which direction to go, when he heard voices coming from the left. Quickly and quietly he ran to the right and ducked inside the first open door, just three doors down. Hoping to find a hallway or an exit, He instead found a dark room full of cardboard boxes. Ducking behind the boxes he sat and listened. “This door was busted open. It looks like he escaped! He could be anywhere!” The voice sounded male, gruff and deep. He sounded very agitated. “No. He is still here.” This one sounded female, more pleasant and less agitated. “Let us continue, we will find him.” It registered that they were talking about him. He began to panic and started to sweat. “I sense his emotions rising.. He is close.” The female voice spoke. He forced himself to calm down and he sat there quietly. Listening to the footsteps as the came closer, and closer. He stopped breathing, and wished he could be invisible. He did not know where he was, or why he was there. For all he knew these people were out to kill him. “Here. He is very, very close.” The voice sounded like it was just outside the room. “I cannot feel his presence anymore. Quickly, we must find him.” The female voice said. He very slowly took a breath and exhaled. “I’ll try this room.” Heavy footsteps clomped towards him. He was forcing himself to stay calm, trying to not give away his position. “Maybe behind these boxes..” A man came peeked around the boxes and frowned. The man looked right at him. “He’s not here.. Where could he have gone?” The man asked, puzzled as to how he could have disappeared. “He is here Gregor, I know he is here.” The man called Gregor walked away from the boxes and his hiding place. He just sat there, completely bewildered as to how the man did not see him. “I’ll check this room.” Gregor said. He heard the footsteps walking away. Now is my chance to escape. He thought to himself. He peeked around the boxes and saw a lady standing outside the door to the right. Her back was turned to him. His two options were stay and risk getting caught, or run, and risk getting caught. He decided to run.

He bolted out the door and ran to the left, past the lady that stood there. She whirled around and gasped. Gregor was just coming out of the room across from the one he was hiding in when he bolted. “There he is!” Gregor began to give chase, following him through the hallway. “We’re not here to hurt you.” He heard. Though, he didn’t here it. It sounded like a voice in his head. Almost like a thought. “Leave me alone!” He thought back. “Please, we are here to help you.” He heard it in his head again. “No!” He thought back and ran even faster. He was coming up to the end of the hallway. It forked left and right, he decided on right. Sprinting down the next hallway he looked back and noticed Gregor wasn’t chasing him anymore. He looked forward again and focused on his running and breathing. He ran hard through the maze of corridors, not quite sure where he was going. He found stairs and ran up them to a higher floor. He noticed this floor had windows, and the other didn’t. He turned down another hall and saw the lady standing in the middle of it. Behind him was Gregor. “I’m not here to hurt you, I’m here to help you.” The lady spoke. He kept running towards her, an idea popping into his head. He charged at her, prepared to knock her over if she didn’t move. Sizing her up she was only slightly taller than he was. He was getting close, about to run into her when she sidestepped him, knocking him off balance. He fell and rolled, but was able to quickly get up and continue past her. Towards the window at the end. He was closing in fast. He kept running and didn’t dare look back. He was almost there, twenty feet. Fifteen. Ten. Five. He crossed his arms in front of his face and threw all his weight into the window. Instead of shattering and flying beyond, he bounced off the window. Falling to the floor in pain.

Changed it yet again. This way works far better with the future parts of the story then the last.

Chapter Two:

He lay there gasping and in pain. Barely conscious. He had hit so hard it knocked the wind out of him. He closed his eyes and grunted in pain. "Stay still." The lady said. He opened his eyes and saw her kneeling above him, her right hand on his chest. He tried to get up but she pushed him down and kept him still. She used her left hand to pull a small electronic device off of his neck. "There we go. Gregor, would you mind placing this back in the room where we found him?" She asked as he walked up. "Yes m'lady." He took the device from her hand and briskly jogged back from where he had come. "Are you still in pain, Matt?" She asked him. "How did you.. Know my name?" He asked her. Come to think of it, he really didn't know his name. She removed her hand from his chest and laughed. "I know more about you than you think." She answered. "Now then, stand up." She said, rising up. "You can come with me or possibly be killed." His eyes grew wide and he gasped. "Killed? By who?" His tired and confused mind began to panic again. "Come with me, I'll tell you and I promise to keep you safe." She said. "O-okay.." He answered.

He followed her through the corridors, glancing around and studying the decor, or lack thereof. The walls were all a dark metal, the floor much the same. It was all a rather dreary place. "I don't think I ever got you're name.." Matt spoke up. "Ah, yes. My name is Elizabeth, You may call me Elizabeth." She said. "Where are we?" He asked. "This is the Kalcatriz dungeon. Formerly home to many slaves and thieves, until they were set free." She said. "We are almost out of here." She added. They came up to a large open gate. Outside it was foggy, impairing his vision quite a bit. "How are we going to get through that?" Matt asked. "Like this." Elizabeth answered. She cupped her hands around her mouth and made a very odd sound. It sounded like a mix between a whistle, a chirp, and a dying whale all at once. She stopped and listened for a moment, and then they could both hear a response in that same tone. A large beast leapt out of the fog at them. Matt gasped at the sight of it. "What is that?" He asked, bewildered. "That, is a dragon."

Chapter Three:

Matt sat on the dragon, right behind Elizabeth. He looked out above the clouds, utterly amazed at the experience of flying. Occasionally they would pass a floating island or two, and he would marvel all the more about it. “We’re almost there, we’ll stop and rest on this next island and then finish the journey.” She said as she took the dragon in for a landing. “It’s so.. Quiet here.” He said as he hopped off the dragon. “Mm, yes. One of my favorite getaways.” She responded. He looked around the island, and saw numerous trees and shrubs. A few small birds here and there, but not much else. “Where are we?” He asked. “This is one of the border islands of the kingdom of Aezerol. My kingdom.” She answered. “Your kingdom? As in your queen?” He asked. “Yes.” She responded. “Wow! Does that make the dragon a royal dragon or something?” He asked. She laughed. “No, not entirely.” He studied Elizabeth for a moment. She didn’t look like the royal type. She wore a rather blue blouse and skirt, with dark brown boots that came to her knees. Her brown hair was done up into two braids that came down her shoulders.

“Why was I in that dungeon?” Matt asked. “I do not know. I came to find you as soon as I received word that she was coming to find you.” She answered. “Why was she coming to find me?” He asked. “That I can only guess. She’s gone mad. She killed her two children, and attempted to kill her husband but failed. After that she disappeared for quite some time, and then resurfaced to find you.” Elizabeth frowned. “I love my sister dearly, and it is very difficult to believe she would do what she did.” Matt stood up. “Do you think she’s trying to kill me?” He asked. “Yes. I can only assume that’s what she would do.” Matt shuddered. “I’m ready to go.” He said. “Alright then, mount up.” Elizabeth said. “Off to my home.”

As they flew, Matt noticed Elizabeth tensing up. “Is something wrong?” He asked. “No. It’s probably nothing.” She said. “The palace is just below this layer of clouds.” She clicked her tongue and the dragon began descending below the clouds. They broke through the clouds and Elizabeth gasped. “No..” Below them was the castle, and surrounded the castle were hundreds of airships. “My kingdom.. under attack..” Explosions rocked castle and the island upon which it stood. “Hold tight, Matt. We must make it into the castle quickly.” She said.

Chapter Four:

The surrounding airships were still. Not a single one fired a shot as Elizabeth and her dragon flew into the castle.
