Thoughts on RolePlaying?
TheIronMadden (2015-04-08 02:52:57)What I think of it:
"I'm a neko. Do you wanna yiff in the Buvvins?"
You won't see me here, but you might find me if you look in the right places.
BirdJesus (2015-04-08 04:51:21)It's dumb. I used to RP on Club Penguin.
"Ugh, I need to go masturbate now. Whenever I get mad or worried, that's what I do."

Pretty much what Fluxer said, however I disagree that chat RPs are always horrible....it has the same principles as a good forum RP...you need the right people.
My first few RPs ever were on a forum, and they were so poorly executed and boring that I stopped participating completely. Then a few years later, I descovered an obscure chatroom on Kongregate that had regular users coming there to RP (it wasn't the official RP room). They were a freestyle jumpinwhenever you want group, who typically always stuck with a persona rather than going "uhhh fantasy RP say 5"....it was actually really fun, and I don't think that style of RP would work out very well in a forum setting..
Also, from my experience here I know first hand that creative, intellectual chatroom RPs are possible...but again, you need to find the right person which is pretty difficult to do....
I prefer the fast pace of chatroom RPing, and using whispers hardly limits your writing...though I suppose if you like to have more than 1 RP partner, it's not too convienent.
So really, I don't think RPing in the forums or chats are any better than the other, it's just a different experience.
Now after all that, I think it's bleeding clear that I fully support roleplaying. It's virtual improv, practically. It's healthy for your imagination and writing skills (in some cases)....I think it's a great resouce for people who enjoy writing but don't know what to write about.
Looking in the RP room on an average day, you are guaranteed to see entirely crappy juvenile RPs. It takes time sifting through the users to find ones who actually have promise of being a good RP partner. Though, it's completely understandable if you don't want to waste your time trying to find one...because you're not going to find many quality roleplayers on a site full of 9 year olds. The forums here have more promise because forum users are slightly more literate.
Even so, this thread didn't mention RPing on Plaza specifically, rather just generally. In that case, if you enjoy Roleplaying (or the idea of it, at least) I highly suggest trying a chatroom RP on another site. Just because the chat RPs here are rubbish doesn't mean chat RP is rubbish altogether.
SLTestDummyFF (2015-04-08 18:50:43)I agree on the chat being more immature. But it does move quicker and there are a few people who are decent.
epicgoomba (2015-04-08 23:06:42)I only RP with one user on here, any other users that want to with me I just say no.

I find RolePlaying a fun, creative way to relax if you're RolePlaying with the right people, of course. I also believe that much of today's RolePlaying could use some major work.
