Gileas sees a dragon flying around near his grotto and murmurs to himself, "fresh meat!" And on that thought he starts to stealthily flying. He makes sure he made no sound flying and checked the wind to see if it's blowing towards him. A common hunting strategy that keeps the scent from him from being detected and noise is drowned by the whistle of the air.
