There was a server crash. I was there when it happened, and Robdeprop has even said that was the reason the files were lost.

Funny that, I've seen files on the server that haven't been touched since 2014 or something, only images but still files

bmarl, If all your work for 2-3 years got deleted, would you intantly start rebuilding or would you just be really annoyed?

Triniate was being developed until a certain point in time, when I realized, there were flaws with the concept. The version I'm talking about, is the one you've seen in the trailers:


I rebooted Triniate. In other words, I started completely anew. I kept some pieces of code, of course, like the character creator, but the main game was completely re-programmed. The main change was that instead of walking freely in the space, your character now walked a grid, much like in the Pokémon games. The combat system was being changed into turn-based. This new version that was in the works was being kept secret to everyone, because I wanted to out the news when that version was far enough to really show something that looked cool to the world. This version, is the version that got lost. There was a server crash, and believe it or not, but the backups that I paid Godaddy for, did not have any PHP files on them (those are most of the games files). I still have the images of that version, but not that version itself anymore. I still had a backup on my PC itself of the older prototype, though.

When that happened, I was really broken hearted. I've spent a lot of hours developing it, and it was all lost. I would basically need to start the programming all over. I have never gotten myself to do that.

And that's what happened to Triniate. The server crash was real.
