Since the popularity of competitive video games have been increasing over the years, many people already considers video games as an official sport. Especially since ESPN is really supporting the idea of eSports by broadcasting a series of tournaments of popular games, such as League, Dotta, WoW, and even Super Smash Bros. Melee and Wii U!

Hell, even the US government already acknowledges video games as a sport!

What do you guys think? Do you consider video games a sport? If not, why not?

Because a sport is by definition: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

By definition, video games are not a sport. And anyone who thinks they are is retarded. I mean, I get Just Dance because you're actually moving around but dancing is more of a recreational activity than a sport. At least in my opinion.

I wouldn't consider video games a sport, even competitive ones. Competition is half of the reason we have good movies still coming out at all, but film writing and direction aren't considered sports. The same applies to music and other forms of art; they’re art, not sports. While the two may merge eventually into a new form of... well, something, right now, to me, art and sports are two separate things.

With the exception of some paintball matches that have been organised with an emphasis on selling walls as art in the aftermath. But even still, that's mostly sport.

Also, Golf doesn't even have that much physical activity going on, but it's still a sport.

Agreed with Crush. Just because they made it a sport doesn't mean it should be one. Not sure why you're directing this at me like I'm responsible for it. As for golf, it is most definitely putting in physical exertion. Try swinging a club and making the ball fly hundreds of yards. Oh wait, you can't.

Almost all sports uses some kind of strategy.

Mate, I play the Dead Or Alive (fighting) games, so I get what you mean about 'strategic planning and executions,' but I still wouldn't consider it a sport.

A hobby? Yeah. A talent? Perhaps, it's arguable. A sport? Nah, bro.

Just because it's not a physical activity? Again, there are a lot of sports that don't require physical activity. It's a mental activity.
