"AN" show
About a year or so ago I tried to write out a story for a world I created with my s/o, this is slightly outdated and needs a lot of tweaking but I just wanted to share.

Have you ever wondered if monsters exist?
You shouldn’t.
Jackson surveyed the crowd before him closely, though he was only met with innocent, smiling faces in the chilled night. Bright neon hues illuminated the damp streets, and dark skies were hanging gloomily above while the city was full of life.
The tired old slayer only stood watch in the scene, though he was perched on the sidelines where the streetlights couldn’t touch, concealed in the night’s shade. His back pressed against the brick wall of an old, closed down shop that would be renovated soon.
“Where are you,” He muttered to himself, arms crossed over his chest.
Finally, something caught his eye.
Jackson furrowed his brow, his gaze locked onto a rather tall, lanky man holding a young girl’s hand. The child sucked her thumb and clung to his side, as though she’d be lost in a sea of colour if she let go-- but something was different about the two, something that stuck out only to the slayer.
He watched as the man grinned, a sick smile tugging at his smooth, almost perfect face. He clutched the girl’s hand almost threateningly, like he was to tear it from her wrist.
Unnerved, Jackson watched the two disappear into a dank alleyway, then waiting a moment before he followed behind the two.

The world is a dangerous place, now even more so for humans. We’re no longer on top of the food chain here. They are.

Jackson concealed himself behind a leaking old dumpster and peeked over the side with interest while the man suddenly came to a halt in the middle of the alley. He turned, though not to Jackson-- to the girl at his side.
Curious, Jackson waited silently for something to happen, unsure if he should intervene. Though his observation skills were sharp among his peers, he still made mistakes from time to time.
He watched as the man’s jaws stretched open wide, revealing a mouth of pearly white, jagged teeth. In a surge of panic, Jackson whipped out from behind the dumpster with his pistol drawn, the girl letting out a screech in terror while the monster threw her to the side with a snarl.
Jackson lunged forward at the beast, the thing reeling back in an attempt to dodge Jackson’s lightning reflexes. However, the creature just wasn’t fast enough. Jackson bashed his silver pistol over its head with a grunt, the beast crumpling to the ground in pain while blood sprayed across Jackson’s chest.
The creature’s flesh sizzled and burned, letting out a violent hiss before clawing at Jackson’s boot-- but to its dismay, Jackson crushed its hand beneath his heel.
“What’s the matter, Little Kitty?” Jackson smirked while the ghoul only bared its teeth and snarled.
“Slayer got your tongue?”
Jackson leaned down to press the barrel of his gun into the ghoul’s temple, his finger curled around the trigger and ready to pull when a sharp pain shot through his arm. Cursing out loud, Jackson tore his hand away from where the ghoul’s claws had sunk into his forearm.
The ghoul cackled in amusement, quickly jumping to its feet and rushing at Jackson with its jaws open wide.
The slayer had no time to react, he was slammed into the brick wall behind him and coughed up blood. Damn, one of his ribs must have been cracked...
The ghoul’s jaw hooked into his shoulder, piercing the leather overcoat and digging into his flesh. The pain was excruciating, searing in his shoulder like a hot flame had been blazing under his skin.
Jackson stood there in agony, his body sandwiched between the wall and the ghoul. He wanted to scream, but he held it in his throat. He needed to think of a way out of this-- his arm had been pierced by the ghoul’s steel-hard claws, and his opposite shoulder had as well.
What am I going to do? Jackson thought, I wasn’t prepared for this!
Out of the corner of his eye, Jackson noticed the girl cowering in fear behind an old, worn down crate. She looked to him for help, her expression begging him for a way out of this. She was too afraid to run away, she could get snatched up again…
Jackson felt a surge of energy course through him. This child would die if he didn't figure something out as soon as possible.
The ghoul tore away from him, taking a hunk of flesh along with it. The sting of losing a mouthful of meat lingered in Jackson's shoulder, a deep ache that sank into his bone and made his entire arm feel numb.
While the ghoul swallowed and laughed, Jackson began to sink to the ground before he suddenly threw himself forward.
Grunting in surprise, the ghoul attempted to dodge but was unsuccessful. Jackson collapsed on top of him, the ghoul stumbling back and falling to the ground with a shriek.
Jackson huffed, getting to his feet with a bit of difficulty considering his arms were useless for the moment. He raised his boot above the monster's head and brought it down with a sickening snap of bone beneath his heel.
Gulping down the feeling of disgust, Jackson stomped again, and again, until blood pooled at his feet. A ghouls body felt like lead to punch, much too strong for any normal blade or fist to puncture, slice, or beat inward.
The heel of Jackson's boot was infused with silver, a universal weakness to all monsters.
The ghoul’s cries became pained gurgling noises, it was choking on its own blood by now. But soon, it's struggles ceased, no longer able to move.
The beast went limp at Jackson's feet.
Jackson panted hard. This was one of the toughest battles he'd faced in awhile. He was off his game tonight… he was getting old and tired, and his apprentice would need to take his place sooner than he'd like.
The slayer was about to sink to the ground when he felt something squeezing his leg. He glanced down to find the little girl from before clinging to him in fear, crying her eyes out into his leather pants.
Jackson's eyes softened. He would pat her head if he could, but instead he mumbled to her in a comforting tone.
“You want to find your parents now, sweetie?”
She nodded yes, though not looking up at him.
He couldn't just wander through the streets covered in blood, and certainly not this injured. He'd need to call for someone back at headquarters to take the girl home, he couldn't do it himself. While his near useless hand slid into his pocket to pull up headquarters on speed dial, he looked down to the bloody, beaten corpse of the ghoul.
Monsters like this… they littered the city. But not all of them were as cold and viscous as this one. In fact, many of the cryptic inhabitants of Sanguinem only wanted to live peacefully with humans, keeping their identities a secret from the outside world in order not to be persecuted by slayers.
Jackson is a slayer, in fact he's one of the highest ranking slayers in the society. He was deputy, and he was looked up to by many, many young slayers still in training. But he wasn't like most slayers. He'd learned a hard lesson that not all monsters are dangerous, ravenous beasts stalking the streets.
